Obama's Lead Grows As GOP Shows Its Colors (Colossal Barf Alert, Or Someone Is Dreaming!!!)
IBD Editorials ^ | November 14, 2011 | Left wing lunatic EUGENE ROBINSON

Posted on 11/15/2011 3:11:17 PM PST by Kaslin

Unemployment is at 9%, the housing market is moribund, "consumer confidence" is an oxymoron and three-fourths of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track. So how is it that President Obama leads each of his likely Republican opponents in the polls? And why on earth is the gap widening rather than closing?

It's simple: Voters are paying attention to what the GOP field is saying — not just the applause-line attacks on Obama but what the candidates propose to do about the economy. The more they talk, the more discouraged the electorate seems to become.

This should be the Republicans' election to lose. They seem well on their way.

An NBC-Wall Street Journal poll last week showed Obama beating Mitt Romney — his most formidable opponent — by a six-point margin, 49% to 43%. That is not a huge advantage, but the trend is in Obama's favor. Last month, the same poll had the president leading Romney by just two points; in August, Obama was only one point ahead.

Surveys show Obama basically wiping the floor with anyone else. A couple of months ago, the GOP was able to take solace in the fact that in a hypothetical match-up between Obama and a generic, unnamed Republican, polls showed the president narrowly losing. But the most recent surveys show that Obama has pulled even with "Not Obama" and perhaps nosed into the lead.

What the Republican field has utterly failed to do is develop a convincing narrative about the economy. The candidates act as if widespread disappointment with the performance of Obama and the Democrats will be enough to win the election. But voters are being given every reason to suspect that GOP policies will make things worse.

Unfortunately all too many Americans want to hear that the government is going to take care of them and solve all out problems. The Democrats more than fill that role. The Dem line is that they want to make things better for everybody and the Republicans are standing in the way just interested in protecting the rich and super rich.
People are worried and afraid. They are also driven by jealousy and envy. They are very dissatisfied with the way we are going and unfortunately can not correctly identify the root problems. They think gov needs to do more.

It is hard to fathom what passes for the American electorate. Robinson may be right. Frankly, hard times are coming no matter who is elected. The sooner the better so that we can get past them - and I don’t want them happening on the R watch.

If Romney or Huntsman are the nominees, Obama can win since there isn't much difference between the three. Anybody else and Obama will lose.

Conservatives are not going to be force-fed RINOs any longer.

Right now Brit Hume is busy tearing Newt apart and telling Republicans why not to vote for him. There should be a clue in there somewhere that the media may be partly to blame. I have yet to hear them seriously attack Obama.

If the economy improves tangibly, Obama will probably win. If it doesent, not even a kneepadder like this lightweight will be able to save him from his cowardice.

Ah yes, the slobbering love affair by the biased, Far Left, Lame Stream Media toward their the Neo-Commie, Fascist, Dear Leader continues, unabated.

Hey Eugene, I hear there is a early Holiday Sale on "Knee Pads" that are even better than the "Lewinsky-model" you and your sycophant, delusional, fellow-traveling idiots and so-called "Journ-0-Lists" are presently using.

Got Kool Aid???

I agree with your former statement, but if Obama gets another four years in, he will have jacked taxes up significantly, along with spending already jacked up, that we'll never recover from the Euro-sclerosis.

Thats why the next POTUS has to be a Republican with guts, IMO. Even if hes a one termer. And I dont really see one on the horizon, though. Certainly not Newt.

Leonard Pitts is a sad sack whose po-faced, repetitive ‘white devils’ nonsense is easily dismissed.

Eugene Robinson is almost as easily dismissed except he’s so smug you suspect he actually believes what he writes.

Please consider that this is Eugene Robinson and he is as nutty as a fruit cake. Still there is a bit of truth in what he says. We are at a point in our society where a large number of people want government to take care of them. And this has been the case for some time now. This is where Obama's strength lies.

I was at a baseball game with some aquaintsives (liberals) from work this past summer and it occurred to me that these people were being very disingenuous when they sang the National Anthem. The line "...land of the free and home of the brave..." really no longer applies to a very large number of people and these folks in particular. These liberals don't really like freedom and they aren't very brave at all. I even said this to one woman and she was highly offended. Big deal.
