SALT LAKE CITY Hours after a man was found dead inside a tent at Pioneer Park, Salt Lake Police Chief Chris Burbank announced Friday he could no longer allow camping in the park or anywhere in the city.
"We can no longer have individuals camping on our streets," Burbank said. "We as a city just cannot tolerate this going on."
Burbank asked members of the Occupy Salt Lake protest group to start packing immediately and to be out of the park by sunset Saturday. The ban on camping overnight also includes the Gallivan Center, where a group was recently moved after setting up camp near the Federal Building.
Burbank made the announcement Friday at Pioneer Park at the Occupy Salt Lake base camp. He said the group was welcome to continue protesting during the day, but they will no longer be allowed there at night.

Hot dog vendors should be able to do the same... families that don't want to go to a camp site can set up tents in our city parks too. It's good for liberals, it's good for the rest of us...
This is exactly what I've been waiting on. You can't defeat Old Man Winter.
I may have to just start supporting the “occupy” movements since they seem to be pretty effective at culling their own numbers.
My guess... they’ll hire Rocky Anderson (former ACLU mouthpiece and SLC mayor) to “represent” them, and they’ll sue the city to have the “right” to trash the park. Gets sub-zero here in late December through February. Fine by me, morons.
Let’s see...
We’ve got:
Rapes
Sexual Assaults
Murders
Drug overdose deaths
Fights
Drug busts
Lice
Public Masturbation
Mental Illness
Filth
Police assaults
Riots
Pedophelia
When does the Bubonic Plague start?
Just like the Tea Party, doncha think?
Well, the TEA party doesn’t have a percent.
99%.
Until the TEA party comes up with a percent, how can they compete?
That'll do it, and quick. First you get warm and sleepy, then you die. Sorry about your friends.
We have had a number of carbon monoxide poisonings in my area in the last 20 years. One involving a gasoline generator in a basement. One was a kerosene heater in a van. And the other was a charcoal grill in a small cabin. Dead, dead, and hospitalized.
This kind of thing may increase in the OWS camps as real winter sets in. The city officials who allow these people to camp, in violation of all kinds of laws and public safety rules, are also culpable,
As an American citizen you have the right to petition the government. You don’t have the ‘right’ to obstruct other citizens.
Ther is no’right’ to impede the transit of others and make their lives miserable by ‘occupying’ a public square.
This is how much the communists have corrupted the thinking process of the American citizen. Instead of civics they are taught ‘resistance’ and ‘protest’. These are tools that keep the corrupt in power, instead of removing them.
Well said!
I heard somewhere yesterday that there were also 2 confirmed cases of TB .
My husband drove by the one in Portland, OR yesterday. He said the place was just a dump. Was talking to the owner of one of the stores and the guy said he couldn’t wait til they left. Said the funny thing is since it started getting cold they all go home at night and come back in the morning. They leave the tents up to make it seem like they’re all there roughing it for “the cause” but they’re not.

Public defecation and urination
Rodents
Tuberculosis
Some type of very serious outbreak of disease is sure to follow, if these camps are allowed to remain open. It might be flu, typhoid, TB, bubonic plague, amoebic dysentery, malaria, measles, AIDS, or any combination of these and other diseases.
The city officials are also culpable. Shame on them for not enforcing public safety laws and health code violations. The reason our society created these rules to begin with, was to prevent the spread of disease. I guess the public is about to receive an education.
"Occupy SLC is putting a spotlight on untreated mental health issues, substance abuse, homelessness, and poverty in our community."
I like it.
“It might be flu, typhoid, TB, bubonic plague, amoebic dysentery, malaria, measles,.....”
Thanks. I haven’t seen that discussed until now. I have long concluded that many of our control freak politicians have a conscious vested interest in presiding over a poor, ignorant, pliable third world populace. After they read your post they’ll start having moats put in around their homes.
Soon there will be a haggard old man, with a worn out horse pulling a cart saying “bring out your dead, bring out your dead!”
Remember H1N1? What do you think the labs will sprout this winter? Hell, we've still got H1N1 tips on handwashing in the restrooms at work. Here, stuff this vaccine in your bloodstream, it won't hurt a bit, did it?
I’m not quite dead... I’m getting better!
Can’t the local health departments do something to shut down these filthy squatters?
Don't those devices all say not to use indoors or in an enclosed space? Why do people disregard those warnings?
