Bill Clinton: I love Barack Obama’s jobs, student loan plans

Bill Clinton moved to unify Democrats around President Barack Obama’s message as he threw his full support behind the president’s plans to ease the housing crisis, help with student loans, and create jobs.
“I like the jobs plan, I think it would help,” Clinton said in a speech at his alma mater, Georgetown University, in Washington, D.C. “I like the student loan plan.”
Citing the high level of unemployment for young graduates in the United States, Clinton said the national direct loan plan for students is “a huge deal.”
“I support what he’s trying to do with the jobs plan,” Clinton said.
“I strongly support what has been done,” he added, saying the president’s plan also is “not inconsistent with bringing down the deficit.”
The 42nd president also backed the Obama administration’s efforts to create green jobs, noting that “no matter what you read among the skeptics,” environmental jobs have grown twice as fast as non-green tech jobs.
And Clinton said it would be impossible to put the economy back on track without solving the nation’s housing crisis, which he warned would likely involve making “politically controversial” decisions.
“But the problem is, everybody’s been hurt by this now. Everybody,” he said.
Several times during his speech, Clinton cautioned the audience about the dangers of allowing a strong anti-government sentiment create serious obstacles to fixing the economy.
