Obama sending combat troops to central Africa to aid fight against rebels
CNN ^ | October 14th, 2011 | CNN

President Obama has deployed combat troops to central Africa to aid in the fight against the Lord's Resistance Army. In a letter to Speaker of the House John Boehner, Obama says 12 troops with "appropriate combat equipment" were deployed on October 12 and approximately 100 in total will be deployed including a second combat team and headquarters, communications and logistics personnel. The forces will provide information and advise and assist "select partner nation forces," Obama explains. The troops will not fight except in self-defense. The full letter is after the jump.

I’m with you. Also notice, no word from Obama on the man about to be murdered for his faith in Iran (if he hasn’t been already).

A few things.

1. Joseph Kony and his LRA are a national security challenge to many East / Central African nations (Uganda, DRC, South etc).

2. Uganda and Burundi have committed thousands of troops towards battling Al Shabab in Somalia. Al Shabab has now been driven out of Mogadishu.

3. Al Shabab is a US national security challenge.

4. The Central African region (Uganda, South Sudan) is now a major Oil producing region, the presence of the LRA destabilizes this region.

5. Uganda has put pressure on the United States to help it get rid of the LRA. It is a quid pro quo - we help you rid Somalia of Al Shabab, you help us with the LRA. Uganda has kept its own part of the bargain, now the US needs to reciprocate.

6. There is a lot of nonsense being peddled by ignorant freepers about Uganda, Idi Amin and Islam. Only 12% of Ugandans are Muslim and at least 85% of all Ugandans are Christian (2002 Census).

7. If you don’t want the US involved in getting rid of the LRA, then don’t insist that the Ugandans, Rwandans and Burundians should be involved in getting rid of Al Shabab.

People forget that Obama campaigned for Rial Odinga in the 2006/2207 Kenyan election, whose Orange Party was bent on converting Kenya to the rule of sharia law under the auspices of the Somali Muslim Council.Obama supported that.

The Obama personal goal ( it is not a US goal)is to restablish the old Caliphate of Egypt, thereby elevating the power of Obama’s extended Luo clan in Somalia and Kenya, throwing off the alleged exploitation of European based colonial culture ...thus Obama is involved in strategic destruction of Egypt’s and Libya’s former governments over the last 8 months. Now Obama is working on the Southern edge of the former Egyptian Caliphate under the guise of rooting out evil, when in fact he is forwarding the conquest by the Muslim Brotherhood in the traditional areas of the former Caliphate of old Egypt.

It is sharia culture that will fill the power vacuums Obama has created, assuring the Islamification of large swaths of Africa. Is that in the strategic interests of our nation? Obama thinks so, but he is not informing the nation of it or the reasons for it.Obama is just creating a series of enemies ( Gadaffi, Mubarak, and now “The Lords Resistance Army”)that are dehuminized as evil, a strictly historical fascist method to justify the Obama killing. The thread of unity to the strategy is simply the Islamification of Africa along the lines of the former Caliphate of Egypt.

IMHO there is no US strategic interest in re-establishing the former Caliphate of Egypt, whose main purpose will be the destruction of Israel, and the acquiring of nuclear arms from Iran. This policy is cause for impeachment.
It is Obama neo-colonialism at its worst.

Watch for drone strikes to begin in Uganda and the region.

“If you don’t want the US involved in getting rid of the LRA, then don’t insist that the Ugandans, Rwandans and Burundians should be involved in getting rid of Al Shabab”

I haven’t ‘insisted’ that the Ugandans,Rwandens and Burundians ‘get rid’ of anyone. My point is that it should be in their own interests to do it. If this LRA cult leader is so bad and his followers so few, it would seem an easy thing for these countries to unite to get rid of him and Al Shabab both without our direct involvement (boots on the ground).

Our troops have been stretched to the limit and with major cuts in military spending coming via Obama and the democrats, plus Obama’s suicidal Rules Of Engagement...we have no business going into Africa or Libya. I am not unsympathetic to the plight of suffering people all over this globe....I just don’t want our troops engaging in ‘humanitarian wars’ and I can see no true US national security interests in Libya or Uganda. Sorry.

Well your government (USG) insisted that the Ugandans, Burundians and Rwandans help it oust Al Shabab from Somalia. This happened both under Bush and Obama.

What happened is simple. The Ugandans probably twisted your arms and insisted that if you don’t help us with Joseph Kony then we don’t help you with Al Shabab. (If you recall, last year there was an Al Shabab sponsored suicide bombing in Uganda).

Understand this: when you start going to bed with all sorts of fellows to deal with your pressing national security challenges, there is a price to pay. Normally it is increased foreign aid, but when a determined foreign leader insists on a specific intervention, there is little room for maneuver, since he’s already boxed you in a corner.

The United States now has a combatant command (created by Bush) focused on Africa (AFRICOM). In the near future, US troops are going to start taking part in all kinds of punitive expeditions to keep all the dictators you’ve bought over happy. It will go on, irrespective of the party in power in Washington (Republican or Democrat), because you’ve defined your national security interests in Africa as Energy Security (read Oil) and Counter-Terrorism.

Most of it will be covert and it will still go on (in spite of your protests). Get used to it.

I know you don't like Obama, but don't let your hatred for Obama cloud your judgement. Also realise that some of us actually understand what's going on in Africa.

With all due respect, most of what you wrote is nonsense.

It stabilizes Kenya’s neighbors.

We don’t want lawless war lords roaming near our presidents immediate family. If his brother is taken hostage it could cause a crisis in Washington DC.

If Arnold Schwarzenegger was president, we would do the same for Austria.

Our local interests in America are no longer relevant. We are now led by global citizens.

What do you think of the U.S. Congressional Black caucus and their kick back schemes concerning financial aid to various African nations. Is this not a part of the cycle of US propping up dictators and the like in Africa?

What about Robert Mugabe, is he representative of a genuine populist African leader in your view? Just curious.

Yeah I couldn’t believe it. I was checking out what Obama thought was so urgent to send Ameican Troops. Green Barets no less.

The Rebel guy is one sick evil dude and deseerves to be hung at high noon.

But AMERICAN troops are going to help out a GOV that sanctions SACRIFICING CHILDREN.

And people wonder why GOD has removed his Grace from America.

Africa is as sick as the ME in their beliefs and vile practices they label religion... when in reality it is evil plain and simple.

As for their Government sanctioning Child Sacrifice as a means of obtaining wealth and prosperity. Well that’s exactly why the nation will never be wealthy or prosperous...and equally as much our nations Governments support of child sacrifice in our abortion slaughterhouses.. will continue to remove Gods blessings on this nation as mothers sacrifice their children on the alter of “self”.

Obama campaigned for Odinga in 2006/2007, and in doing so he showed the world his support for the Islamification of Kenya. His policies in North, Central and East Africa are dedicated to this evolution.Obama’s goal is the establishment of contiguous African nations governed by Sharia Law, just as Sudan has recently declared. The shape? Pretty much the old Caliphate of Egypt: Libya, Sudan, Egypt,Somalia, Kenya. The Muslim Brotherhood is already destabilizing parts of Nigeria, and gathering missiles from the Libyan arsenal.Things are about to get very dangerous in certain parts of Africa.

Do you not find it strange that Somali pirates interdicted a ship load of tanks ordered for the Army of Kenya? or was it Sudan? in the process of delivery from Russia?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/feb/04/piracy-somalia

Lets see some sources supporting your statements.

Here is one which defines what Odinga’s and Obama’s goals for Kenya truly are.

*************
This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is made
between Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga on one hand and
the National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF) on the
other hand.................................
..............................................
..........................

IV. Initiate, within the first year, deliberate policies
and programmes to redress historical, current and
structural marginalization and injustices on Muslims
in Kenya. This will include the entrenchment in the
Kenyan constitution provision that will outlaw the
targeting and profiling of any Kenyan community
(including the Muslim) and subjecting them to human
rights abuses, violations and discrimination under the
guise of whatsoever , as has specifically been
witnessed by the Muslim community in the party.
Specific action will include the setting up of a
commission to inquire on deliberate schemes and
actions of government, its agencies or officers, to
target or interfere with welfare and social well being
of Muslim in Kenya as citizens including rendition of
Kenyans to Somalia, Ethiopia and Guantanamo Bay.
Such schemes and actions will be put to an end and
public officers’ responsible for the same named and
held to account.

There isn't any reason the adjoining nations couldn't take this guy out..but for the fact they use this as means to barter with wealthy nations for the revenues they stand to gain by doing so.

When national leaders cease to see their people as barter material then their might be a chance for peace within those nations...but that simply isn't facing the reality of the push for power and money...only in Africa they do not have the restraints more civilized nations have...pretty much anything goes there for whoever is in power...and those who seek it...nothing is off the table in obtaining that.

U.S Congressional Black Caucus has infinitely less influence on US Africa policy than either the Energy Industry or National Security considerations. In fact, their real impact on US Africa policy is nearer to zero than anything else.

Mugabe is an interesting figure, in that he is a thoroughly nasty piece of business, but he has genuine support among vast swathes of his population (hard to imagine, but true). On the balance, most Zimbabweans know that Zimbabwe will be better without him.

Secondly, Mugabe may be an SOB, but there are quite a few other African SOBs that enjoy full US support (because they have Oil). (Please Google Teodoro Obiang - he is worse than Mugabe, but Chevron doesn’t want any disruption to its supply of crude oil from Equatorial Guinea).

It is this deeply schizophrenic foreign policy towards Africa that makes it impossible for educated Africans like me to buy into the “shining city on a hill” narrative about America. (People in Southern Africa - South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola, tend to be the most cynical because they’ve seen you support all kinds of thoroughly nasty individuals like Mobutu and Savimbi up close).

Finally, please be better informed about the foreign policy choices YOUR government makes ON YOUR BEHALF.

I can tell you straight up front that the US Government has a vested interest in securing Oil supplies in the Gulf of Guinea and will commit forces to protect these supplies should the need arise. I can also tell you that the US Government is committed to eliminating Al Qaeda activities in the Sahel region and has already assigned elements of the US military to assist local forces in doing so.

Your Government set up AFRICOM (US Africa Combatant Command) to (a) secure energy supplies in Africa (b) check the influence of Al Qaeda and (c) check the influence of China in Africa. In short, the USG is prepared /is preparing for a series of wars /entanglements in Africa.

The surprising thing is that the average man on the street in Nairobi, Lagos or Cape Town is better informed about US Foreign Policy than the average American.

“I believe in free enterprise and am culturally conservative.”

Then that’s a good reason to hang out here. You will find others of the same mind here and it’s good place to hone your own opinions(at least that is what this place has done for me). I don’t always agree with every FReeper, but I have also learned from others here that may have more experience or knowledge than myself. We all have one thing in common though(for the most part) and that is that marxism is on the rise across this globe and that Obama is their manchurian candidate. They have to be stopped.
Welcome to FR.
