As would have been the Japanese casualties as well.

In the context of war the only compassionate acts of war are ones that end the war as quickly and efficiently as possible IMO.

I always figure that if we would have lost a million lives invading Japan, they would have lost at least 4 million, instead of the paltry hundred thousand they lost in the abomb attacks, so you’d think they’d be THANKING us. That’s what you’d think.

True enough, but I have had the privelege of knowing several vets who were the receipients of Japanese hospatility during WWII. So, in that context, Japanese casulties were not a concern of mine.

66 years after the fact, no casualties are a concern of mine now. The questions 0bama raises about guilt and shame with his foolish intention to apologize for actions taken over a half a century ago can only be answered by taking into account the whole picture. When you do that he looks like an even bigger idiot.

It’s all by design...all intentional

Ghost Soldiers by Hampton Sides covered the raid to free American prisoners before the Japanese murdered them, a story made into the film “The Great Raid”.

Not an excuse, but as way of explanation, the Samurai code spoke of total obedience to the Emperor, and that to surrender was not an option. Those who surrendered were already “less than nothing” in the eyes of the Emperor cult so killing them meant nothing. Sounds kind of like a certain other “cult” that we are facing today...

I have read that the American POWs would have been killed when the US had invaded the home islands. (I know one of them personally--still alive at 92 or 93.) My father would have had a good chance of being one of the Americans killed in the invasion. He never doubted that using the bombs was the right decision.

This was all about Obama getting to preen--looks like this was before he knew he was going to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his great achievement of not being George W. Bush.

No doubts about any of that.
