Wary that some are joining the grassroots conservative movement merely to sell books and enhance their celebrity status, a Tea Party group is putting the heat on former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to make her presidential plans clear.

In a Tuesday statement, Armed Forces Tea Party Patriots paints former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin as the prime example of that kind of behavior. The group, which consists of former military members, wants Palin to announce whether she will seek the White House or sit out the 2012 race.

“If not we are at risk of having major Tea Party speeches and events used as political rallies for a selected candidate [versus] a citizen based movement that forces the legislative agenda and serves as a fundamental check to the current corrupt culture in Washington, D.C.,” the group said in the statement.

The Tea Party must remain a movement centered o principle and not become one centered on personality.

Agree. I don't think the tea party movement is centered on Palin, although some individual members of the tea party may be "centered" on her. But other members may be "centered" on someone else.

Exactly — centered on principles, run by We the People. I personally am happy to let Sarah Palin chart her own course. These guys do not speak for me.

My personal tea party is just fine with having Sarah Palin speaking truth.

BTW I support someone other than Palin for president.

...as opposed to using the Tea Party name as a hammer to beat on a candidate you don’t like?

if these Tea Party event organizers didn’t invite her to come speak, she wouldn’t. If they don’t like it, then why do they keep inviting her? Could it be to drive more traffic to these events to sell more T-shirts?

No tea partiers I know or converse with seem to think this way. Some want Sarah for Prez, some don’t. Personally, I think she’s doing what the balless wonders in Congress won’t do............speak the truth.

Principle is important, but so is leadership. It's pretty hard to advance principle in this world without good leadership.

The Tea Party Movement is bigger than any one person, and it’s not about any ONE candidate — and thank goodness we don’t have any ONE single leader. The Movement is about bringing together debate and discussion of solutions from We the People — not the politicos, not those inside the beltway types that are part of that PERMANENT POLITICAL CLASS that have fought the Tea Party Movement. As was said in the introduction, this is about every day, hard-working, individual Americans and empowering the individual.

When people attack Palin personally without focusing on principle, they are doing exactly what you say they shouldn’t do.

No one has done as much for getting Tea Party Candidates elected and espousing Tea party principles as Palin.

Be very suspicious of this group, which just suddenly appears out of the ether today in a Hill hit piece.

Armed Forces Tea Party Patriots

The name alone suggests that it is a liberal plant organization looking to cause trouble from within.
