“Religious Left” is not really an oxymoron. If they called themselves, “the Faithful Left”, then you’d have an oxymoron.
They use the Christian religion to justify their real religion: Marxism. They use the words of Christ to explain the reason for every welfare program under the sun, but then explain that “some of the things in the Bible are not to be taken literally” (i.e. homosexuality is an abomination, etc). They ignore so much to justify their ideology and even if you can get one to listen to reason for brief periods of time, they always fall back to their default position, which is “Christ was a communist.”
They do not believe in the Rapture, or End-times, or even a real Heaven. They believe in God’s Kingdom On Earth, which is a euphemism for “the Workers’ Paradise” and not the millenial kingdom that you and I think it is. All of their “faith” is placed in government bureaucrats and politicians redistributing other people’s money to “the poor” (which I like to call “the people with better cell phones and car rims than me”).
Religious left? Which religion?
“How can Christians, as well as other persons who share similar values, vote for a candidate who wants to persecute them for their views and to compel them, against their consciences and subject to civil penalties, to be indoctrinated and participate in the affirmation of immoral practices? In short, how can Christians vote for someone who will insure societys regard for them as bigots?”
-Robert Gagnon
The religious left’s first commandment is thou shall covet other people’s wealth.
more taxes=less charitable giving
The left would be happy to let the Church become a govt-licensed franchise from which it collects fees
'In the Sermon on the Mount' (Gospel of Matthew), Jesus said:
"And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well."(1)
Note that is all about GIVING FREELY, aka: Charity. NOT confiscation by a government for redistribution as 'Caesar' sees fit!
And in Luke 6:31 Jesus says:
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."So how does that square with TAKING from others against their will as I'm sure that NOBODY wants that to be done to them at the point of a sword. Or as per Obama's advisors, a barrel of a gun.
Not to mention what the left wants is nothing but pure and simple: COVETING of your neighbor's goods. And last I looked that was still a sin per the Ten Commandments.
Ergo, there cannot be a "Religious Left" as the Left is about TAKING and by FORCE. There is no 'giving of' by Free Will involved
(1) That 'someone' referred to is a PERSON, not a government that's suing you for your tunic.
Religious left - worshipping the Internal Revenue Service and other false gods.
You described my church going cousin to a tee, and he is as liberal as they come. During the 2008 elections, I got a handful of Bush/Cheney bumper stickers. One of his coworkers who I van pooled with, took several.
He went to the parking lot during lunch and affixed one to his truck and another church going liberal's truck. They both backed into their parking spots at work and pulled into their driveways, so were unaware of the stickers. They drove around for over a week before my cousin's wife spotted the sticker.
He called his buddy to tell him what happened and told him to check his bumper. He and other guy both came to work the next day and let out several four letter words. Not religious words either. They wanted to know who put them on their trucks - like anyone would admit to that prank.

true.
the left regards the Church as a competitor, not an ally.
same with the traditional family.
they want ALL to flow from the Gov., without competition.
Emergent Church guru Brian McLaren, champion of religious postmodernism, typically rejects moral absolutes -- except when denouncing conservatives. Not a church, not tax exempt, tax his useless leftwing ass off.
