Reid: Joint Committee Must Include Taxes Or Trigger Will Kick In
Real Clear Politics ^ | 8/2/2011

"We've had too much talk the last few days of Republicans as early as this morning, Republican leaders in the Senate saying there will be no revenue. That's not going to happen. Otherwise, the trigger is going to kick in. The only way we can arrive at a fair arrangement for the American people with this joint committee is to have equal sharing. It's going to be painful. Each party if they do the right thing, it's going to be painful for them because to be fair, we have to move forward. There has to be equal spending cuts, there has to be some revenue that matches that," Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said on the floor of the Senate right before voting started on the debt deal. Increased revenue from taxes was not included in the debt compromise.

Ok, they have the Constitutional power to borrow more money, but where in the Constitution does it allow them to create the Super Congress?

This "Super Congress," composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn't mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers. Under a plan put forth by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his counterpart Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), legislation to lift the debt ceiling would be accompanied by the creation of a 12-member panel made up of 12 lawmakers -- six from each chamber and six from each party.

Should this new Super Congress proposal be allowed to reach implementation, then the government will have set the precedent that the American people no longer have Constitutional representation, and our government will have morphed into a Soviet style 'polit bureau', where a select few will make decisions for the people and for the country.

The enumerated powers of the federal government to spend money are defined in the Constitution under Article I, Section 8. These powers include the right to “establish Post Offices and post roads; raise and support Armies; provide and maintain a Navy; declare War;” and other activities related mostly to national defense.

No matter how long one searches through the Constitution, it is impossible to find any language that authorizes at least 90 percent of the civilian programs that Congress crams into the federal budget today.

There is no granting of authority for the federal government to pay money to farmers, run the health-care industry, impose wage and price controls, give welfare to the poor and unemployed, provide job training, subsidize electricity and telephone service, lend money to businesses or foreign governments, or build parking garages, tennis courts, and swimming pools. The Founders did not create a Department of Commerce, a Department of Education, or a Department of Housing and Urban Development. This was no oversight: they simply never imagined that government would take an active role in such activities.

Your wrong. It is exactly the outcome the RINO GOP, an arm of the demrat party, wanted.

It is we who got played. Boehner, McConnell and DeMint were elected under a conservative false flag. IMHO they are Marxist traitors just like the Usurping Marxist Onada and his commie buddies.

Tea Partiers must unseat these people by: 1. Starving the GOP and 2. Running vetted Constitutional Conservatives against them.

Equal sharing?

Are the 50% who are paying no taxes and getting a free ride going to start paying taxes?

Why do Social Security and Pensioners have to pay taxes but welfare creeps don’t?

I never thought I would live to see the day that members of Free Republic would take the words of a howling marxist (Reid) as gospel and react accordingly.

It's a threat, not just a lie.

Screw Reid and all his socialist asshats. If he wants equal sharing of the burden then we need to tell all the stay at home leaches to go get a job and start paying taxes because the welfare checks and 50 years of unemployment have come to an end.

Time for a Third Party.

Republicans controlled everything
Democrats controlled everything

They both vote to increase the debt by 50 percent ....by 2022 we will be not 14 trillion but 21 trillion in debt.

Both Parties continue
Destroying everything

The Budget Control Act trades $21 billion in cuts next year for a debt ceiling increase of $2.1 trillion. That’s one penny in cuts for each dollar of new debt.

Time for a Third Party.

This makes me sick. Geithner likes it so we know it is wrong. And everyone is fighting to be in super commitee. The GOP will pick all RINO’s. But they will have to give up their Aug. vacation to do it.These people that work for us that won’t be in the super congress will be cooling off at one of their beach homes we worry about finding jobs.

$5 Trillion dollar hole if the Clinton tax increase is not re-instated?

Allowing the Clinton tax increase to re-instate will slow the economy even more and lessen tax revenue.
