I see a lot of wishful thinking

No matter what happens we lose.

There is no way they are not going to raise the ceiling. There is no way they are going to cut trillions from the budget. Just is not going to happen.

I don’t see any possible way to win this. Nothing being discussed comes ANYWHERE CLOSE to what is needed to be done.

Except for a few forlorn souls in the House, this whole fiasco is NOTHING but theater, a sham. But what the hell, why not? The American taxpayer is in the minority in this country.

True.

There is no way they are going to cut trillions from the budget.

Not all at once anyway. Not unless you get into SS, MC.

Nothing being discussed comes ANYWHERE CLOSE to what is needed to be done.

CCB does. It needs a do over. It will pass the Senate.

It’s even worse than many people are willing to admit:

What is needed to be done, from the very start, is NOTHING.
The debt limit ‘crisis’ is a sham. When you run your credit cards to the max, you stop spending. That’s what they are afraid of. Tax revenue will still come in and we service our current debt affordably. They are terrified that when the debt ceiling is hit, people will see that the world doesnt stop, the money still taken from their paychecks still gets spent, and we have been lied to for decades.........

“There is no way they are going to cut trillions from the budget. Just is not going to happen.”

Good post. Politicians spend money; that is what they do and all they know. Fiscal responsibility is simply not in their DNA. They will raise the debt ceiling, guaranteed.

As Margaret Thatcher said, eventually they will run out of other people’s money. Then the Great Government Ponzi Scheme will collapse.

Agreed. The only good thing is we did keep the Dems from raising taxes.

That’s a big deal.

But, without major cuts, we still will have a credit downgrade.

The impasse we’re at will ensure that our credit rating is downrated and that interest rates will skyrocket as the market tanks. We’re toast and screwed. But then....I knew that as soon as Obama’s 2008 win was made official.

Our government is now dysfunctional. And I don’t see it getting any better ......ever...at this point.

From my perspective a win would be:

Cuts equal to or greater than the cap increase. No new taxes. Obama and the Dems still own the economy and their deficits. This debate frames the 2012 election.
