They revise numbers every month. May had been (this is by memory) 54000 and revised to 23000. Not 100% but i’m close. So the losses in May more than offset Junes paltry gain. The way the writer looks at it is not the way anyone i know views the number. As we stand now the past 2 months were 23 & 18. Next month they will revise Junes. Will he write another article if they revise June up to 40? I don’t think that will happen but this article is written merely to incite and not educate.
The economy is not dead. It’s just resting!
The people on the dole and others working for the government are not “out of work. “They still get their paychecks regularly. Those laid off local and state government employees see only that taxes need to be raised to put them back on the teat. The drug dealers aren’t “out of work.” They still get their pay “checks” as before. One way or another that works out to nearly half the population. It only takes a few misguided or malevolent actually working voters to queer the economy. And the great bulk of the money spent to influence votes is spent by the takers rather than by the payers of taxes. Things will not improve much. The decadence and decline will level out from time to time but the direction of progress will not reverse.
Unfortunately, I agree...and not just in regards to politics. I teach undergraduates and the level of entitlement boggles my mind. I could rant for a long time about how flawed our higher education system is. Many people blame the colleges (which is justified) but a lot of the problems begin with the attitudes of the students.
In part. It also reflects that a lot of people live their lives in ‘the matrix’ and believe the popular message put forth by the MSM. If the MSM was honest, and weren't trying to protect Obama and their liberal friends in government the public would be much more sour on this administration.
The MSM contributed significantly to the stock market bubble during the Clinton administration, and the fact that they haven't been able to sway enough in the public to be optimistic and start spending their money to prop up this administration's poor economic policy says a lot about just how bad things really are.
I don't think you're crazy at all to think that. If the economy goes back into negative growth in the next quarter or so (a prospect I find highly likely), there would be no point to his running at all.
After the Viet Nam War took a sudden bad turn, LBJ stunned the nation by announcing that he wouldn't run for re-election in March of that election year. A lot of interesting stuff can happen in a short period of time.
This is like the old days of the Soviet Union, when they would announce that 6000 cars had been produced at a particular factory that month. Actually, only 6 (if any) had been produced, but everybody kept playing with the figures to make themselves look better, and the fact that no cars ever made it to market was never mentioned.
‘Es joined the choir invisible!
What department?
I was a history major, and graduated some time ago. I had the privilege of paying thousands of dollars of my savings into a discipline that chose to join with the faculty of women’s studies.
Frankly, the professors are to blame for much of the nonsense percolating. When the professors actually care enouh to teach, then I’ll agree with you. I had some very good profs and some very poor ones. The divide was staggering,.
The list, ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
Plant biology department, although I teach general bio and genetics.
I agree that many professors and administrators are at fault.
Of course I’m speaking very generally and I’ve taught some great students, but in my experience there is a strange transition that happens to students within a month of being at college. I teach intro level courses so I get mostly incoming freshmen in the fall. Almost all of the new students try very hard at first and only a few struggle (mainly due to poor high school preparation). Then, out of nowhere, students start missing classes, missing assignments, and refuse to accept poor grades for any reason.
The expectation seems to be: You should get an A if you turn in complete assignments (regardless of correctness), a B as long as you show up for class, and a C if you do neither.
So...yes, maybe it is the professors/administrators’ faults for even giving this attitude a chance to develop. I admit that although I see faults with the system, I’m not sure of the best way to fix it. It does seem like the education “experts” are clueless, though. My best students are averse to the feel-good environment we’re supposed to be providing and instead try to challenge themselves as much as possible
If things are the same as they are now (nearly 20% real unemployment, high gas prices, etc.), there is no point to his running. Every group that voted for him, with the exception of public school teachers, is worse of then before, and the teachers only benefited (at least here in NJ) at the expense of untenured and prospective teachers.
bump
Is it any wonder? I can’t think of a single business that Obama and the democrats have not savaged with their policies and rhetoric and/or basically nationalized since he took office. Let’s see....(if I leave out any..please let me know):
1. Wall Street
2. Banks
3. Auto industry
4. Oil industry
5. Coal industry
6. Farming
7. Health Care industry
8. Insurance industry
9. Airline industry
10.Small business (regulations,health care,etc.)
11.Manufacturing (ATMS, Aerospace,etc.)
12.Housing industry
13.Tourism (Las Vegas comment,gas prices,etc.)
And this is just off the top of my head on only one cup of coffee and being awake only 30 minutes...lol. (I am sure I have left out something...please feel free to add to the list)
The only industry I can think of that he has left alone is the entertainment industry. He hasn’t even left the internet and media alone(net neutrality, other FCC regs.)
Heaven help us!
I tutor many students. I wish more of the professors understood how important they are to the success of their students. Most don’t care and see teaching as a burden and that attitude filters down to the students.
I usually get the kids who didn’t get the right amount of prep just before they are set to fail their first term. I try to get them to have the correct attitude about their courses, and generally do succeed.
But it takes work and actually caring about the student.
Nothing that starts in the form of “Administration officials say.....”, “Department of (insert here) released figures today that......”, “President says.....” etc. can be believed, period!
