Expulsion from Congress

Note from this that of the 20 expulsions in history 19 of them were democrats. Interesting. Most though due to the Civil War.

There were only three expulsions not due to supporting the Confederacy during the civil war: Senator William Blount was expelled for treason, with charges centering on a plan to incite the Creek and Cherokee to aid the British in conquering the Spanish territory of West Florida in 1797; Rep. Michael Myers of Pennsylvania was expelled for bribes in connection with the Abscam scandal in 1980, and Rep. Jim Traficant of Ohio was expelled after he was convicted of bribery, racketeering, and tax evasion but refused to resign his seat in 2002 (I remember the last one).

That makes it highly unlikely the House would expel Weinie. If he insists on staying I think the most likely result would be a congressional reprimand. You can kill a woman in a drunk dricing accident and politicians in Washington won't expel you. (see Ted Kennedy)

Interestingly enough, no Republican has ever been expelled from Congress.
