African was not used to describe race. Certainly not in the early sixties. The proper nomenclature would be Negro at that time. Somethings not right here.

No, that sounds about par for the course for Hawaii, even in the 60s. I can easily imagine a lot of COLBs were issued there with “Asian” used to describe race, so why not “African”?

And from what I’ve read about his “we are the world, kumbaya” mother, that sounds like something she would fill in the blank with.
