Experts Estimate There Are 1,000 Rebel Fighters in Libya… And 1,000 Fighters Are Jihadists

CNN’s Jon Lee Anderson gave Eliot Spitzer some bad news yesterday. According to Anderson there are only 1,000 rebels fighting Gaddafi forces in Libya.

During “In the Arena,” Jon Lee Anderson, staff writer for The New Yorker reporting from Benghazi, Libya, tells Eliot Spitzer that the number of opposition fighters on the front lines are fewer than anyone would think and that they are poorly armed and badly trained. Anderson says, “Effective number of fighting men, well under 1,000. Actual soldiers, who are now in the fight, possibly in the very low hundreds on the opposition side.”

Earlier it was reported that there were 1,000 Al-Qaeda members in the rebel ranks.

Former jihadist Noman Benotman, who renounced his al Qaeda affiliation in 2000, said in an interview that he estimates 1,000 jihadists are in Libya…

…Outside observers generally estimate the number of trained Libyan fighters to be about 1,000.

Hmm. That’s weird. So if there are only 1,000 rebel fighters in Libya and there are 1,000 members of Al-Qaeda fighting with the rebels in Libya, then wouldn’t that mean that the rebels are 100% jihadists?

And, the Obama Administration wants to arm them? Now does that sound like smart power to you?

Not to worry… There are at least 200 more Al-Qaeda fighters on their way to Libya from Afghanistan.

The road from Egypt to Benghazi is wide open.

No Qaddafi forces there at all.

Methinks the Egyption MB is “surging” arms and men into Cyrenica.

Would we stop ‘em? Hehehe. NO. We’ve all but given the green light to any freelancers and states wanting to arm the rebels/insurgents/jihadis/terrorists/freedomfighters.

This is ridiculous. And keep in mind that Hillary was the one pushing the intervention. Actually, keep it on Facebook and every blog you can find.

This should kill any aspirations for Prez that she has. This is a laughable disaster.

Are you f___ing kidding me???

It boggles the mind how we have allowed this brainless administration and the MSM to shove the height of ridiculous down our throat! It doesn’t take a very high IQ to realize that we are in trouble, BIG TIME! Somebody had better do something fast. And that something would be to STOP this insanity, RIGHT NOW!

I noticed that the administration LOVES to explain how they’re protecting “innocent civilians” or even better “the Libyan people”. Uh, not so much eh?

In a civil war between Kadaffy and al-Qaeda the only thing to do is leave them alone. Let Europe worry about their oil supply. We need to direct our energy towards drilling here, and creating jobs, not spending billions on angry Islamists. May the looniest loon win.

Oh yeah, many of those crazy guys are leaving Afghanistan and headin’ to Libya to get themselves some of those soon to be supplied arms from the US. (obama will do this behind our backs). Then they will motor on back to Afghanistan and shoot up some US soldiers with US supplied weapons.

Meanwhile, Obama will put US troops on the ground in Libya to fight in place of the jihadies that left Libya with US weapons to go back and shoot US troops in Afghanistan.

Hell of a deal Obama Bin Laden.

816,000 potential fighting men for the Rebels. So, we have a Rebel army (1,000 "fighters") that represents approximately 0.000122% of the population that cares enough about freedom to do something, when they have the opportunity. Why are we wasting our time with these cowards?

(violins) We had to. It's our humanitarian responsibility. Genocide was imminent. We must be good world citizens.

Well, at least our “Fearless Leader” has done something to put his name in the history books.

This has got to be the largest amount of cash per fighter that has ever been spent, by any government, in any war in history.

Well, if not the history books then maybe the Quiness Book of World Records. No, wait! World’s Dumbest Criminals!

Yes, but is that how many are left after the "slaughter" I heard so much about that instigated our invasion? Funny though, no videos of the bodies piled up from Gadaffi's "slaughter" of civilians.

Merely a demonstration of what a degenerate anti-american hoodlum we have in the White Hut. The head must be removed from the snake in order for this beast to die.

And killing AQ whenever they popped up.

But, in any case, the conversations between US SF and Jihadis could be rather piquant -

Hey, how’d you survive those drone attacks in Waziristan?

Holy moly Abdul, how’d you get out of the Pakistani jail?

But whatever, US and AQ are friends now.

Haven’t you heard? We’ve always been friends. Osama bin Laden is a CIA agent and Bush let him get away on purpose.

Richard Haass said it best, the USA has lit a long fuse and we don’t know to what it is attached.

Isn't Haass one of those Rohdes scholar globalists who sent our troops to be the world's policeman in a Wilsonian intervention in Iraq which inspired Osama bin Laden to attack the United States?

I wonder what globalist ulterior motive he has to defend the aspiring "King of Africa."

Didn’t sound like he was defending Daffy.

Just pointing out the inanity of a pickup war in support of rebels we don’t know in a country where we have no vital or strategic interest or any immininent threat.

Anyway, it’s good for Obama, the budget battle is on the backburner.
