Barack Obamas demand that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak accept an immediate transition of power has hardly calmed an anxious Israeli people watching the fall of its closest Arab ally. For Israelis, the American President doesnt appear principled and resolute but untrustworthy and flailing.
By insisting that Mr. Mubarak immediately resign, Mr. Obama undermines the possibility of a peaceful transition that could empower democrats, rather than the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood. Allowing Mr. Mubarak to remain in office until September, as he has offered, would allow the secular opposition to begin organizing for the election. So far, the only organized opposition is the Brotherhood.
Israelis fear that the haste with which the Obama administration turned its back on its own closest ally in the Arab world has signalled other pro-U.S. leaders in the region that Washington cant be trusted. A cartoon in the newspaper Maariv showed Mr. Mubarak as an astronaut drifting in space. Houston, Ive got a problem, he says. Houston
Houston
The fear here is that Israel could become that astronaut. Both left and right commentators are warning that, even as the region turns increasingly Islamist, the Jewish state cant depend on Mr. Obama.

I guess the 70+% of American Jews who voted for Hussein and still love him cannot be bothered so why should I be?
We knew this and warned people before the election.
The Left is going to do everything possible to try to shield Obama from the chaos that his "gone yesterday" comments, rightly or wrongly, will be linked to.
I don’t even know why those “Jews” to which you refer are called Jews... ethnically, possibly, and only.
They hate Israel just as much as the next secularist and wouldn’t shed a tear if it was destroyed or taken over by Muslims.
Obama...
Just another day on the wrong side of the world’s and America’s best interests.
I don't think so, actually. There will certainly be a portion of "the left" who will do that; but I don't think they all will.
Obama is a thoroughgoing f**k-up, and the Democrats know it. Somebody's going to break ranks soon enough, and a segment of the leftish media will cover it, and then they all will.
And I think Obama's going to face a serious primary challenge. Come the election season, he's going to get pounded on Egypt, and he's going to get pounded on his debt, and he's probably going to get pounded over China (which has begun throwing its weight around).
