Obama Hits 8-Month High In Gallup Poll
National Journal ^ | Jan. 3, 2010 | Steven Shepard

As Pres. Obama returns from a Hawaiian vacation to a more Republican Washington Tuesday, his approval rating in the latest Gallup Daily tracking poll sits at its highest point in eight months.

Fully half of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing, while 42 percent disapprove. The last time Obama's approval stood at 50 percent was for the three-day, rolling sample conducted last May 29 to June 1, partially over Memorial Day weekend. His disapproval rating hasn't been lower than 42 percent since mid-May of 2010.

The jump in Obama's approval rating comes shortly after a lame-duck session of Congress that Obama hailed as "a season of progress" before departing on his Christmas vacation. But the White House is likely to find itself on the defensive quickly this week, as Republicans assume control of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Gallup was the worst predictor of the congressional elections this past November. No other pollster has Obama at 50% as we speak.

Its a temporary bump... Obama will never get over 50% again in any poll.

sadly, things have to get worse in this country before many of the masses realize the disaster we are dealing with right now. While the voting populous has moved big time in our direction, there are still too many who think things are ‘ok, but not great’ right now. We are in an economic disaster, but the propping up of people with government handouts and such are keeping a portion of the population at least partially happy.

1) He was out of the WH

2) The poll was gathered from drunk New Year's revelers.

It’s less the raw score, than the trend, which is significant. Since the November landslide, Obama’s approval rating has risen. That’s very hard to deny, looking across the poll spectrum.

Thanks to Mitch McConnell etc. All they had to do was block everything until our newly elected congress arrived and they couldn’t even do that right.

Fully half of Americans approve of the job Obama is doing

The other half don't smoke crack, collect a welfare check or sit on their worthless asses hollering "where my pie?"

This is a holiday bump, like the one over Memorial Day, that should be ignored.

The media has been in 100000000000% kneepad mode for months now since the mid term elections.

I agree. They’ve tweaked it in Zero’s favor, but the trend does seem to be up.

We have a lot of morons in this country, it would seem.

This is ominous—all Obama has to do to get re-elected is to spend all of 2012 in Hawaii.

I think they’re hoping this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It’s like they’re saying, “Hey, all the cool kids are supporting Obama again! You should too. Don’t you wanna be cool?”
