This scenario doesn’t sound that outlandish to me at all, particularly given the state the economy is liable to be in by 2015.

It sure as hell couldn't be a politically correct "police action" where we make sure that nobody gets hurt....

.....could it?

That point taken, in all honesty, they would kick our collective Socialist asses!

But there is not much to worry about. They also know that now, we have become our own worst enemies and will soon be the cause of our own end from within ourselves.

That is when China will emerge as THE World economic and Military super power. They will have a force of over 2 Billion and will be able to mobilize them to where ever they need them. Believe it!

the USA going to war for Taiwan would be a joke. A good portion of Chinese on Taiwan WANT to see reunification with China. Another large portion wants independence, so they themselves are conflicted.

If Taiwan are serious about protecting themselves from the Mainland, they need to arm every Taiwanese male in the country.

Send every conscript home with his rifle, as the Swiss do. Bring them back occassionally until they are 55 or 60 years old, for training and updates. An armed society of with 5-6 million trained civilians would make even the brutal Communists think twice.

If China nukes a carrier battle group, we will play the game at the bottom of the list:

In 1997 China showed how it could dominate the ROC (Republic of China) without firing a shot (at anybody).

They staged naval games featuring missle cruisers on the approaches to the ROC's 2 main ports. They announced the exercises several days in advance and as a result cargo insurers refused to underwrite shipments into the ROC for the duration.

They do this for a couple of months and the ROC will ask for their terms.

The correct name for Taiwan is the Republic of China, what remains of it from the Civil War.

My scenario: we make a show of defending Taiwan, then (by prior arrangement) say “sorry” and pull out, abrogating all US debt to China on the way. We’re happy, China’s happy and Taiwan is no longer an issue.

Any Chinese move to take over Taiwan would trigger a confrontation with the U.S. Navy and Air Force. Is the U.S. prepared to counter this growing threat?

There is zero chance that the US will fight to save Taiwan, and this has been true for many years.

The PLA cannot defend against that which they don’t know exists. In the Black World of DoD there are multiple capabilities that have never been unveiled. In fact, the SecDef does not even know all of the capabilities unless the managers in the Black World decide he has a need to know.

China’s satellites may all stop working. Their telephone and internet systems may cease operations. Their aircraft computers may decide to fly into the ground. Automobile and truck engines throughout entire regions may suddenly stop running. All radio communication could be disrupted. Submarines thought to be invulnerable will be located and quietly sunk.

In the financial world, a total embargo on Chinese exports coupled with the expropriation of all Chinese assets in the USA and the repudiation of any bonds they hold would cost them trillions.

That said, we have a spineless commie in the White House for at least two more years. I stand by my forecast that China will not miss this opportunity to conquer Taiwan, an island on which they have the most tenuous historical claim.

As in all other eras, weakness brings war.

Hmmm. A very iffy scenario. Our naval weapons and defense systems aren't as bad as they seem and the authors of this article are very lacking in what those systems are and what they are capable of doing. In fact, a few systems were completely left out of this story.

This seems to be more scare-mongering than anything else.

The Chinese fighter squadrons would quickly find themselves re-tasked away from attacking a carrier to defending China's land assets from hundreds of Tomahawk Block IV’s launched by the Georgia, the Florida, the Ohio and the Michigan SSGN’s and heading toward critical Chinese infrastructure such as the phone network, launch facilities, the Three Gorges Dam, etc...

Half of them are airborne when Kadena comes under attack.

That attack alone would escalate this scenario into an all-out war. The author is being way overly-simplistic in this analysis.

This is not how wars are fought and won.

Our subs and B2s would eliminate their ground based C3 capability and the Air Force would be eliminating their space based capability.

It will be a little difficult to guide those magical anti-carrier missiles when GPS is offline, Chinese satellites in pieces, and the Russian system jammed.

And then the nasty Iranian nuke facility virus is spreading on the Chinese net.

Or the ChiComs could just pay off the crooked Mexican government.

Then ship millions upon millions of Chinese to Mexico where they can waltz across the border into the USA.

That less ugly revised version at the end will never be a possibility with Barack Obama, the US-hating traitor in the White House. He wants the us to give up our strategic defense systems (which is a large component of the second scenario above). The START treaty ties our defensive system development to Russian development and deployment of specific new types of weapons. It does no even consider the growing threat from China, NK, or anyone else.

China has been able to grow into the superpower it has thanks to so many stupid policies and idiot American consumers who would rather pay less for Chinese junk at the expense of US jobs and manufacturing know-how. Add to that, a federal government that is spending $trillions more than it collects in taxes and other revenues (and cannot collect without completely destroying the entire economy)... Instead borrowing from.... Drum roll please... China.

Were our Federal Government to actually operate within the bounds of the Constitution, we could have the most healthy economy, lowest unemployment, and a national defense that would be practically invincible- all with a lower tax burden than we currently have.

But since “we” now apparently believe that paying people NOT no work, and enslaving generations to social programs is a better use of $ than “providing for the common defense”- the future of this nation looks mighty bleak. Proof positive was the election of a radical Marxist to the office of President- despite overwhelming evidence that he is as unpatriotic and unqualified as any candidate has ever been.
