The frozen Potomac River is blanketed with snow in Washington D.C. on Christmas Day.

A rare white Christmas in parts of the South was complicating life for some travelers as airlines canceled hundreds of flights, while snow was predicted for the nation's Capital and travel authorities warned of potentially dangerous roads.

In Pensacola, Fla., Jena Passut faced a quandary. The 36-year-old magazine writer drove with her husband and two kids from Fairfax, Va., to visit relatives. Now she worried about how to get back home amid the snow.

This is an everyday concern during a normal Winter in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. Just posting this because so many from the East coast here on FR have slammed California thinking we have no weather.

Glad you liked it. That's one of my all-time favorite movie scenes. Another similar one was when Indiana Jones (in Raiders of the Lost Ark) takes out a sword-fighter with a single shot from his pistol (which may have been the genesis of the saying "Never bring a knife to a gun fight").

The inside the Beltway crowd believe the world stops just west of Dulles Intl AP. “Beyond the Pale” is a proper description for the attitude that our Rulers and their minions of Bureaucrat’s have for the Nation.

Further Info: 90% of the Calif counties vote Republican, 10% vote demdummy. 90% of the population live in 10% of the counties. State wide elections are over before they start.

Joe Bastardi called this one before anyone. Said something like, "unlike last weeks potential storm that went into the Atlantic, this one will re-form and go up the east coast".
For once, someone got it right. ____________________________________________________________

The storm bringing a rare white Christmas to the South will strengthen into a blizzard across the mid-Atlantic and New England Sunday into Monday. A nightmare awaits holiday travelers.

The corridor from Salisbury, Md. to Philadelphia to New York City to Boston to Portland will be faced with roughly 18 hours of heavy, wind-whipped snow.

Total snow accumulations within this zone will exceed a half foot. More than a foot will bury pla

ces from the New York City area to Bangor, Maine.

Strong winds will significantly blow and drift the snow around, leading to an all-out blizzard from Philadelphia northward.

Disruptive snow will even expand westward to Washington, D.C. and Albany.

I was told that Ford was very sick that day and wasn’t up to all the fight scenes so he asked the director “Why can’t I just shoot the guy?” The director said OK and they ended up leaving it in.

Yep, I've read that also. The making of a classic!

I am not sure if he was the first to say it but the first time I heard it, it was “just like a wop to bring a knife to a gunfight” and it was Sean Connery in the Untouchables.

Funny story about the single shot from Raiders is that it was complete improv by Harrison Ford. As I recall the story, Ford was very sick and was supposed to use his whip to disarm the guy but couldn’t. After a few takes with some whip misses and injury, he just pulled the gun and shot the guy. It was so great they left it in and it’s become one of the more famous scenes from the movie. Amazing!

“The inside the Beltway crowd believe the world stops just west of Dulles Intl AP.”

That’s funny, when I was growing up in LA, we thought everything outside of LA were Hicks and Rednecks...and that included people from NYC.

Luckily, I moved myself away from LA when I was 19 years old, and learned that only people from NYC and Chicago are the only Hicks and Rednecks.

“...braces for storm”...last night this time the “models” for the Philly area were saying there was a 75% chance we’d have no snow from this storm - now they’re saying 10-15 inches - and yet these “climatologists” can tell us with certainty that in 50 years the average temps will be up 3 degrees and the sea level will rise eighteen inches...and they get mad if someone questions their assertions.....

"thinking we have no weather"

We got weather and then some. Yet another storm moving through today. So much snow in the mountains even skiers are hoping it will stop.

And rain, rain rain everywhere else.

If the snow keeps piling up in the Sierras a warm storm in the early spring will make the entire Central Valley look like New Orleans.

FYI: it's a winter tradition in Ottawa, Canada to go skating on the Rideau Canal.

It's a pity that the World Junior ice hockey championships aren't between Canada and the U.S. There'd be grist for a interesting bet between Prime Minister Harper and President Obama - more interesting that a 24-case of beer.

Yeah, if it doesn't happen in D.C., New York, Chicago or Los Angeles, you never hear about it on the news.
