Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich appears intent on keeping high-flying Republicans grounded in reality. From Politico.com:
Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich We are not going to deport 11 million people, Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty.
A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is not a call for amnesty. Rather, he said, its about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.
Dos y dos son cuatro (two plus two equals four), he said to chuckles.
Gingrichs comments came as he and other GOP leaders seek to step up their outreach to Latino voters, the fastest-growing constituency in the country and one Republicans have struggled to win in recent elections. Gingrich is billing his first conference sponsored by The Americano, a bilingual website he launched last year to attract more Latinos to the Republican Party as a step toward bringing conservative innovation to issues that affect Latinos.
10,900,000 will satisfy me.
I agree that we won’r be able to deport 11 million people, but if you start by deporting Niki Diaz and dozens of others, and TON of them would SELF-DEPORT!
Agreed. This country has the ability and political will to deport those here illegally, but lacks the leadership at all levels.
Red Herring alert.
ENFORCE THE LAW and the criminals will SELF DEPORT you OAF!
Regardless, you have invoked the “A” (amnesty) word so your chances for future GOP political office are less than nil.
Get back on the couch with Nancy where you belong.
They will deport themselves if people stop hiring them and cut off all the benefits they receive from state and federal governments.
This is the same argument used about drug abuse. There are simply too many scofflaws to punish. The only way to stop illegal aliens is to send them back to their country of origin, period. If they sneak in a second time take away their scholarship.
Why not?
They will deport themselves if people stop hiring them and cut off all the benefits they receive from state and federal governments.
Who is this "WE" you are talking about, Newt? Since you hold NO elected office or bureaucratic title you can't be speaking for the government and the deluge of emails, faxes and telephone calls to the Congress on this matter in '06 proves that you are not speaking for American citizens.
Newt must have a mouse in his pocket.
We are not going to deport 11 million people, they are going to deport themselves.
A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. The basic idea is to “win” an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic. This sort of “reasoning” has the following form:
1. Topic A is under discussion.
2. Topic B is introduced under the guise of being relevant to topic A (when topic B is actually not relevant to topic A).
3. Topic A is abandoned.
This sort of “reasoning” is fallacious because merely changing the topic of discussion hardly counts as an argument against a claim.
Even if 11 million deport/self-deport, that means we’ve still a good 19 million left!
Here’s a supposedly educated city facing a working-age population of the poorly educated children of poorly educated adults:
If Obama would send The Big Red One into Mexico to quell the civil war, I wager that the number of folks crossing the border would go down. Heck, we could use the Mexicans who are in our military to do that.
It’s more like 30 to 40 million, at least.
What Gingrich is really saying is that we not going to enforce our laws. But we’ve known for years that Gingrich and his cronies refuse to enforce the laws. That’s why we’ve got tens of millions of illegal foreign nationals living on our soil and threatening our national existence.
Why any patriotic American would care what such people think about anything at this point is beyond me.
Truly, I wouldn’t vote for Newt Gingrich if he was running for dogcatcher.
I am so sick of these pansies on immigration! Mitt,Newt, heck even Christie...You deport the criminals, STOP ALL EMPLOYMENT, HALT BENEFITS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE...then, see how long before BANKRUPT,CASH-STRAPPED STATES BEGIN TO SOUND LIKE TANCREDO, then deport some more, many will realize without a job...the GIG IS UP!
Is it time to start a new political party to get us through this impasse? Any takers to the DEPORT 30m PARTY? 5 bucks per member?
How ‘bout we just get started on it & see how far we get?
And why not?
Sounds like a “shovel ready” project to me.
Oh, and let’s build the stupid wall while we’re at it.
