Fury at £1m taxpayer-funded film showing Thatcher as has-been with dementia
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 27th November 2010 | Gerri Peev

Tory MPs were furious yesterday after a film depicting Baroness Thatcher as a has-been with dementia was given a £1million taxpayer-funded grant.

The Film Council handed out the cash in what some see as a final insult to the Government days before ministers reveal how the quango will be wound down.

Conservative MPs hit out at the use of taxpayers’ funds for what appears to be a political hatchet job.

The former Tory Prime Minister, now 85, is portrayed as stricken with dementia and full of regret over what many believe were courageous political decisions. She is also shown speaking to her husband Denis, not realising he has died.

Tory MP Priti Patel said she was ‘deeply disturbed’ by the film’s apparent theme. She said: ‘It is disrespectful on a human level and it sounds like this will misrepresent her legacy. There has been a concerted effort to do just that over recent years and it is driven by the Left. It’s a shocking abuse of taxpayers’ money.’

Colleague Andrew Bridgen added: ‘This doesn’t look like a good use of public funds. Taxpayers will be worried that so much is being spent on what looks like an attempt to settle a political score.’

The film – The Iron Lady – is being made by Pathe and FilmFour and will star Meryl Streep as Lady Thatcher, whose family is also said to be deeply upset about it.

Meryl Streep. Another rat-nosed Leftist shrew who had her fifteen minutes of manufactured fame, and won't return to the cesspool from whence she came.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

Sadly, this is where conservatives generally handle the situation poorly. We need to consciously and continuously produce and promote films, television, music, video, and computer games which mock, defame, denounce, and demoralize the left and leftist icons and beliefs. Someone needs to make a film showing Ted Kennedy as a boozing womanizer and occasional murderer. Music videos should savage Obama and Che and Barney Frank. Yes, we have South Park, which loves to lampoon the left, and Ann Coulter, but we need a lot more.

Let the left show Lady Thatcher with dementia. Counter that with Geraldine Ferraro in a lesbian mud-wrestling match drinking shots between rounds.

The left is at war against Western values, Christianity, and limited government. We’re responding with Robert’s Rules of Order.

You Brits, your taxmoney was wasted on this.

Remember that when your government is lecturing you about how broke it is. :)

Tuition goes up, there are violent riots and outrage. Shariah law is implemented, no one cares.

What happened to this world?

As the article points out, the funding of this piece of trash was handed out by what is known in the UK as a quango (quasi-autonomous non-governmental organisation) which the previously socialist government stuffed full of leftist appointments. The new Conservative-led coalition government has announced that this quango, the Film Council, along with hundreds of other quangos are to be abolished, and legislation to fulfil this is currently working its way through Parliament.

There was a time when I could not resist the urge to to see the latest eye candy from Hollywood; I would just pretend that the propoganda wasn't there.

Not any more. In fact, these days (I'm now in my 50's) I refuse to see a movie at the theater unless I've checked in advance and confirmed it sends a conservative and uplifting message. Otherwise I might deign to pick it up from the discount bin at the local video store at some time in the future.

I hope I'm not let down by the upcoming remake of "Red Dawn".

Good observation there. I guess it’s sort of like bringing a knife to a gun fight. I’m not suggesting that Conservatives become dirty, illegal fighters, but just not being so naive for starters would be good. (The generally predictable fall back into RINOism after Republicans win an election would be a start. “Working With the Opposition” only seems to apply to Republicans. When it’s Democrats, they’re adamant that “they won”; or to quote Obama in 2008, “we won”.

>>>I’m not suggesting that Conservatives become dirty, illegal fighters<<<

I am suggesting this. We need to match our opposition point by point. If they want to poke in the eye, poke in their eye. If they kick to the groin, kick their groin. The left has given us two options: lose or win. They set the rules. Time for us to play by them.

I have many cousins in the UK; most all are college educated. They spend way too much time thinking about where their next vacation will be, and no time whatsoever thinking about the direction in which their country is headed.

The state which separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools. Thucydides (writing on the Peloponnesian war)
