The beleaguered head of the Transportation Security Administration said today that at least one airport passenger screening went too far when an officer reached inside a traveler's underwear, and the agency is open to rethinking its current protocols.
An ABC News employee said she was subject to a "demeaning" search at Newark Liberty International Airport Sunday morning.
"The woman who checked me reached her hands inside my underwear and felt her way around," she said. "It was basically worse than going to the gynecologist. It was embarrassing. It was demeaning. It was inappropriate."
That search was against protocols and "never" should have happened, TSA Administrator John Pistole told "Good Morning America" today.
"There should never be a situation where that happens," Pistole said. "The security officers are there to protect the traveling public. There are specific standard operating protocols which they are to follow."
Pistole, reponding to complaints from passengers, has maintained that the TSA will not change its pat down procedures. But today he said the agency is "open" to changing security procedures.

“But today he said the agency is “open” to changing security procedures.”
What? Wait!
Didn’t you just say that there are ‘protocols’ to be followed and the agent isn’t following them?
Why the need for a ‘change’ instead of disciplining the persons doing the groping?
Yeah, now that somebody “important” got felt up, the TSA is “open to change.” They could have deep-probed us commoners all day long and nobody would have noticed.
if it never should have happened - its then, Illegal !
If it was one of our mothers, wifes or daughters as opposed to a member of the media, there would be silence from this pathetic Goon-Meister.
“wifes”...duh.
Someone is going to get hurt if this keeps up. And I don’t mean a traveler. The people have had enough...
He is of course referring to any passenger being able to obtain evidence of the sexual assault. Recording devices will be illegal, recording anything a felony, and a gag order will be slapped on all passengers in the name of national security.
So one of the media elites gets molested by the TSA, and the agency chief finally concedes that that particular TSA groping went too far. What about all the other citizens who just happen to be from the great “unwashed masses”?
Not sure if this question has been brought up, but what about dogs, can’t a bomb sniffing dog do as good a job detecting explosives.
What would you prefer? A human feeling your crotch or a dog sniffing your crotch. I think if a person is sitting the dog could detect explosives in the upper/lower body with minimum distance of a foot or so?
Any dog experts know if this viable question is it doable?
That will be the next step. Just like it is illegal to film a cop doing a traffic stop.
This is tyranny and it will be the last straw for many Americans who have up until now deluded themselves as to the true intent of this administration.
It's a felony.
The agent should be arrested for sexual assault.
When I does that, I gets slapped.
Into next Tuesday.
John “Pissy” Pisshole can go pound sand.
Drudge now has a picture (left column) up of a child being groped. He doesn’t have a link or a video for it.
Picture the thugs from the SEIU as TSA "agents" feelin' us up. I fly into and out of San Diego, home of the "junk touchers"....so my travel will definitely be limited to vehicles!
What a naive idiot I am. I never dreamed this would happen in our country.
Come on, don’t use common sense to solve a political problem.
The reason dogs won’t work is there are no huge political donors who have a monopoly on dogs.
