A bill to extend jobless benefits for those who have been unemployed long-term was defeated in the House on Thursday, November 18.

This could be the beginning of something ugly in this country...
FOlks with no jobs, no hope of a job and now ending unemployment benefits... holidays are coming, tempers will flare, desperation will set in.
Nothing good will come from it...
How long? ...antoher 99 weeks?
What’s the alternative? Eternal welfare for the unemployed?
The federal cost of unemployment extensions already exceeds a third of a trillion dollars. That’s above and beyond what the states paid out in initial claims.
What’s an acceptable total cost to society for this welfare? A trillion dollars? Two trillion? How much?
A lot of unemployed people are caught up in a problem they probably didn’t create. I have sympathy for them. I know people in this situation. If I were a congressman, I would be ready to slash and burn spending in most areas, but I would vote to extend unemployment a bit more.
I thought they would extend it and for a good reason: As Gerald Celente has been saying, “when people lose everything and have nothing to lose, they lose it.”
The folks rolling off unemployment may use that last check to purchase the following:
-Tar
-Feathers
-Torches (with extra oil)
-Pitchforks
I would suggest if people are in that much trouble, they go on welfare. That’s what extending the benefits would be anyway.
So what is the solution? 99 weeks is the longest period unemployment benefits have ever been paid out. It is almost double what the previous longest period has been.
According to MSNBC, Democrats brought the measure to the floor under a rule that required a two-thirds vote to pass, so the measure fell despite winning a 258-154 majority. Republicans blasted the move since it denied them an opportunity to try to offset its cost.
I commend you for your compassion and concern for your fellow citizens, but could you be more specific and then justify your choice on the basis of logic and economic reality? How much is enough and why? I have all the sympathy in the world for those who are unemployed through no fault of their own (most of us have been there, one time or another), but you have to draw a line at some point.
Not me. For me, even the 26 weeks is too much. People can actually learn to save for a rainy day. It’s very empowering, actually. You take responsibility for your own family in the down times by saving in the up times.
I agree.
There is no happy way in this situation. 99 weeks is enough and yet, with what the Bamster has done to the economy and open borders, it is not enough. Ofcourse, we are out of money but they found money for naked scanners and other hideous pork and always, more government employees.
>> I would vote to extend unemployment a bit more.
For how long, and as what cost?
Or should there be no limits at all?
Do you realize that employers will be hit with higher taxes to replenish the drawdown of funds in the state coffers? We are just fueling a downward spiral. History has shown that people start looking earnestly for work the nearer they get to the loss of unemployment benefits.
Exactly. I know of people that are juicing the UE system for every dime they can get, and have no intentions of getting a job.
Maybe there are no jobs out there at all, maybe it’s only hamburger flipper jobs that are available, point is: They’re not trying at all.
.....Nothing good will come from it.......
They will go back to work.
The solution is get a job! How many refused lower paying employment? You know how the game works, it is about time they grab a fishing pole and go fishing.
I don’t have an answer.
I’m just saying... Nothing good will come from it...
