[More] Bad news for Dems: Rain in the forecast for 2010 Election Day

In more bad news for Democrats, rain is in the forecast for much of the country on Election Day.

Weather tracking websites, including weather.com and The Old Farmer's Almanac, are calling for rain in the Midwest, Southeast and Northeast regions, with chances for precipitation in other parts of the country as well.

According to Laurel Harbridge, a Northwestern University political science professor, GOP voters are not typically discouraged by rain. “Republicans are helped by bad weather ... it does harm Democratic prospects.”

Wendy Schiller, a political science professor at Brown University, echoed Harbridge. “Bad weather almost always hurts Democrats,” she said. “The traditional Democratic base tends to include lower-income people and the elderly. Both of those demographic groups have a hard time getting to the polls.”

Political experts say the rain will especially help Republicans this year because the conservative base is motivated to win back control of Congress.

“It will require an even bigger get-out-to-vote effort by the Democrats if the weather is bad,” said Schiller.

it doesn’t split the way gay and welfare do.

Maybe 60/40 on the pot. 80/20 or more for gay and welfare.

We have to add NBPP savages to that list these days. I would PROUDLY walk past those a$$holes, and tell them exactly how I voted.

Don’t see many of their types in Port Washington WI, however.

Are you sure? California prop 19 to legalize pot is polled around 50/50, yet dems (44%) out-register repubs (32%). That would indicate less than 40% of repubs support legalized pot (therefore, smoke pot?). You are saying 60% of repubs smoke pot.

No, I’m saying that of pot smokers, about 40% are Republican, about 60% are Democrat. Yes, more Dems than Reps, but not 2 to 1.

Of gay and welfare, a much higher percentage are Dems. Well over 2 to 1 Dem.

Iowa forecast looks ok so far, but that could change.

Bad weather has ALWAYS helped republicans in iowa.

A little bit of rain and the lazy democrats can´t get out of bed to work...let alone get out to vote.

Don't forget that election day is also the second day of the month.

Lot of dems probably going to be too busy shopping with their November government checks to worry 'bout votin'.

GOP voters are not typically discouraged by rain. “Republicans are helped by bad weather ... it does harm Democratic prospects.”

What a sad fact but it does help our cause. Nothing short of death or serious injury will keep me from voting.

Wait a minute.... I live in Illinois and if I die before the election, I'll be voting democrat, for the first time in my life.........er death or whatever, you know what I mean.

“Maybe 60/40 on the pot. 80/20 or more for gay and welfare.”

Again, Source?

I am rejecting the premise that “plenty of Republicans smoke pot.” Plenty of course can mean a lot of things. But I suspect you are just basing this statement on your personal preference and/or personal experience.

I know about 100 Republicans - that is to say, 100 people that I know well enough to know they are registered Republican.

Not one of them, to my knowledge, smoke pot. Perhaps five I know smoked pot at one time, either experimentally or for a period of time, but none (that I know of) now.

I also don’t know one Republican (that I know of) that is gay.

So, that’s my personal experience.

I am sure some registered Republicans smoke pot, and I am sure that there are some registered Republicans who are homosexual. But I wouldn’t say “plenty,” and I wonder why you do.

“Plenty of Republicans smoke pot.”

Source? Or is are you projecting your own wishful thinking?

Projection for sure. I don't smoke pot, I suspect that you don't either.

“Look at the prop 19 crosstabs on the polls.”

Ok, but I don’t think everyone who votes for 19 is a pot smoker.

Good grief folks get a grip.

Forecasts more than 24 hours out are horrendously bad.

If they start saying this on Monday night, it might even come true........
