CHICAGO -- After 14 days of jury deliberation, the verdict in the trial of disgraced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was not guilty on all but one of the 23 counts. And a number of Americans are wondering why -- after months of grandstanding by the prosecutor U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald -- citizens are left with practically nothing after millions of their tax dollars were spent on this Chicago corruption case.

It was obvious in the timing and method of the arrest.

They showed up at his house at oh early thirty and had him do a perp walk. Then there was the release of selected portions of the wire taps.

Curious that a Chicago story would be covered by a Topeka station...

No surprises here of course.

Anyone with a functioning brain knew going in that the main task would be to Protect the King.

The only question was: would Fitzie do as he was told and uncharacteristically back off?

So they are going to retry. How then does Fitz get himself off the hook? I suppose the only thing he can do without obviously throwing the case is to behave so outrageously and prejudicially that the judge throws it out?

The holdout juror did not get on the jury by accident. Anyone who read her questionnaire would know how she would voter before the trial even started. The whole thing was manipulated..and it is hard to tell why. Rezko still hasn't been sentenced either. It would be interesting to listen to some of the internal debate that must be going on with the US Attorney's staff.

Yep, I do like that Blago went on the offensive practically on the court room steps.

He really should ask for a speedy re-trial (or dismissal) to be scheduled before the election just to keep messing with their game. He knows that it is his freedom on the line and should pull absolutely no punches.

One sentance and I stopped reading. That first sentance is wrong: “After 14 days of jury deliberation, the verdict in the trial of disgraced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was not guilty on all but one of the 23 counts.”

Blagojevich was found guilty on one count and it was a hung jury on the remaining counts. He was NOT found “not guilty” on the other accounts. It will no go to a retrial.

“not guilty on all but one of the 23 counts”

Wrong. Guilty on one count, hung jury on the other 22. Otherwise, there would not be the option of a retrial.
