One of two U.S. Sailors missing in Afghanistan since last week has been confirmed dead and his body recovered, a NATO spokesman said Tuesday.
The search continues for the other missing Sailor, said Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale, a spokesman for NATO and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
The two Navy personnel went missing Friday in the eastern province of Logar, after an armored sport utility vehicle was seen driving into a Taliban-held area. NATO officials were unable to say what they were doing in such a dangerous part of eastern Afghanistan.
The Taliban have said previously that they killed one of the two men in a firefight and captured the other.

Still no explanation what the two were doing driving into a dangerous area.
God rest his soul.
Condolences and prayers for the families of both. Deep gratitude is owed for their service and sacrifice for their country.
I read earlier that the road they were captured on had been recently upgraded, and there was some thought they perhaps they mistook that road for the road they should have been on?
Prayer for the family...and prayer the other sailor is found alive. So sad....
Geez, the whole country is a dangerous area. God bless and keep every one of our men and women in uniform who are in harm’s way.
Why is the Navy involved in a land-locked country?
From what I understand, Navy Seebees go out beforehand to build Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) for other troops. At least that is what one of my kids told me.
Seabees, Seals or corpsmen come to mind, maybe even a chaplain.

Exactly. The link below gives a description of Seebees expanding FOB Griffin.

May God comfort his family and friends during this tragic time.
Amen.

Exactly right, just like when Seabees showed up with truck loads of gear and materials unannounced and refurbished my son's FOB in the middle of Iraq.
RIP.
The Army has been stretched thin. Navy personnel have been tasked with helping out with transportation, EOD, medical personnel, training, and renovating/building infrastructure, to name a few things.
the first report I saw said the “remains” were recovered. which made me think that he was in pieces.
