President Barack Obama called Shirley Sherrod Thursday to offer his apologies and urge her to accept a promotion on Thursday, but the Agriculture Department official, who was forced out on unfounded charges of racism, kept mum on her plans.
Obama had tried to call her twice on Wednesday night but couldnt connect with Sherrod, according to an administration official. West Wing staffers were attempting to call her again when she returned the presidents calls at around 12:35 p.m.
The apology came after Sherrod took to the airwaves Wednesday to say she would appreciate a call from the president. The 62-year-old grandmother resigned at the direction of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack after a misleading video was posted on conservative websites. It later was discovered to have been doctored to misrepresent Sherrod as racist.

Also Julian Bond jumped onto the “racist” bandwagon with a vengeance - Julian must see an opportunity to make some more $$$$, God knows he cares nothing about his “people”. What a disgusting pos opportunist.
I bet nobama makes her the Czarina of Racial Harmony.
I am sure that there are other “soundbites” on Sherrod. If Breitbart or some other conservative journalist was smart, they’d have several little tidbits yet to be released....lol.
First she’s fired, then Shirley’s re-hired (with an apology from Obama), oops, she’s fired again, wait, she’s hired again with more a$$ kissing from the administration....you get the picture. By the time November rolls around, this admin will look like total fools - ok, maybe we don’t have to wait till Nov, lol.
Obama wouldn’t have apologized to her if she had been white.
Wouldn’t have offered her job back either.
Brietbart is no fool. I'm betting he has additional video, an ace up his sleeve.
He did this with the ACORN story, he sat on video until the time was right.
The fat lady hasn't sung in this saga yet.
Undoubtedly, but I doubt that the next shot he fires will have a single thing to do with Ms. Sherrod, who was never his target in the first place. The REAL target is the NAACP itself, and they know it...
the infowarrior
Considering its size, that would take a while.
If I admit publicly that I was stealing from my company and vandalizing equipment, but I say that I don’t do it now because I have seen the light, do you think they’d still fire me? News flash, most companies would.
Agreed.
Plus a white farmer or three is going to be able to prove racism in USDA. I bet the class action is being put together now.
when is he going to apologize to the rest of the country for “effing it up big time?”
but since the Racist in Chief fired her , why is he apologizing ?
Is Obama apologizing because his policy is that it is OK to be racist ?
Ditto......by chance, did Jack Squat apologize to the State Trooper at the Beer Summit?
Sounds like it is OK to Obama to be racist. The USDA chief says there’s a zero-tolerance policy for racism. If that’s true, Sherrod used strike 1, 2, and 3. If it isn’t true, then the USDA’s Policy & Guidance people better get hot and do some revising.
This whole thing is such a load of crap. If a white guy gave a speech at a national convention saying that he gave a black farmer less-than-optimal help, didn’t care that he was losing his farm, and told him that “he needs to go back to his own people”, do you think he’d be getting compared to Abe Lincoln and getting his ass rubbed on the news shows? No, he’d be out of his govt. job like crap through a goose. The circumstances and “seeing the light after” would mean nothing, this guy would have to move to South America.
MR. APOLOGY continues with his pathetic excuse parade.
He’s just taking care of “one of his own” you know ....
>> Did Sherrod or did she not say that she worked against a white farmer just because he was a white farmer?
You’ve heard the phrase “through the prism of racism” ... coincidentally, I see three sides to Sherrod’s story:
The murder of her father, the enmity you eluded to, and her racially infused political bent. It’s this 3rd side of the prism that bothers me - holding Republican responsible for the troubles in the Black community - this is the racism we should focus our attention on. This is the type of racism the NAACP and CBC practices. The type of racism that Breitbart responded to on behalf of the Tea Party.
The “white farmer” story provided an important lead, but it branches off into some complicated territory that involves much more than Sherrod’s controversial remarks (assuming the content of the full video is true). BTW, my “context” on the “full” video is in no way sympathetic to the “context” the Left is shoving down our throats.
Breitbart was right and wrong.
He was right about the tactic of attacking the left when it began its TeaParty is Racist mantra. He effectively changed that mantra and shifted attention to: 1) The NAACP is racist, and eventually 2) The argument about his excerpt
He was wrong about the exerpt he chose. It wasnt what was reported.
However, he should have focused on the comments by the lady about taking the white farmer to a white lawyer and the comment about taking him to his own KIND.
That, in the context of the other racial comments in the speech, would establish that there is a real racial element in the thinking of the NAACP.
But the tactic of attacking rather than rolling over is very refreshing. I hope that conservatives keep it up.
“So the media has established that:
1) The White House had nothing to do with firing her, and
2) The White House has now apologied for its part in firing her....”
Like I said; Libs are definitely NOT the sharpest tools in the shed, including the anointed man-child known as Mr. Skittles along with most of the staff that occupies “the hate Whitey House”. They suffer from an insidious mental disease with no known cure showing symptoms of self-hate, tribalism and racism....not to mention just being outright plain stupid.
Great points xzins.
As far as Breitbart is concerned, he held up a mirror to the NAACP with the “editied” clip which, in my opinion, is in “context” of the Left’s exploitation of racial discontent.
