"In an ominous sign of a still-spreading political scandal, federal officials are probing potential misuse of U.S. funds by exiled Metra chief Phil Pagano."
"In a series of developments, U.S. Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., who has helped Metra obtain hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grants in recent years, called on the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Transportation to "investigate whether any federal funds were misused or spent in any unauthorized way."
"Mr. Durbin's action came after the Federal Transit Administration the USDOT unit that actually makes grants to transit operators put Metra on restricted drawdown status which means Metra can still get federal cash but with more than the usual oversight and review."
"The twin actions came a week after Metra's board placed Mr. Pagano, who has been the agency's chief executive for 2 decades, on paid administrative leave and hired a lawyer to review his performance. Those actions were triggered by questions from me [Author:GregHinz, Chicago Business] about whether Mr. Pagano last year received a $56,000 bonus without board approval." [ Full Story]

"The president, Michael Scott, of the Chicago Board of Education, had served in a variety of prominent posts over three decades, was found dead on the banks of the Chicago River, 3 a.m. near the Merchandise Mart, a historic commercial center and office building downtown. Mr. Scott died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Scott had a long career in Chicago government.he had received a subpoena to testify before a federal grand jury investigating whether there had been improper preferential admissions to the citys top public schools. News accounts concerning his role as a member of the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee suggested that he had engaged in a conflict of interest by helping a group of ministers develop land near a proposed Olympic site."
That’s one way to get out of going to jail.
At that size, that must have left some mess. Train in the repair shop?
The SunTimes article didn’t say there were witnesses to his ‘suicide’.
What did this man know that was enough to die this way?
The Chicago Way....nothing to see here....these are not the droids you are after....move along
Yet another Chicago official meets “an unfortunate end.” No wonder Tony Rezko is under protective custody...
This is so unfortunate. If only Pagano had lived, he could have helped explain how hundreds of millions of dollars in federal grant money had been spent.
Awfully bad luck that he decided to push himself in front of a speeding train. His priceless insights will now die with him.
not if women were available and willing.
My God.....did the train survive?
to think that a guy who headed Metra for 20 years threw himself under a train because of a probe into a $56,000 bonus ... Does not pass the smell test
We need a photo gallery of the crooks from Chicago(Obama’s buddies). This guy makes Jimmy Hoffa look like a pansy from SFO.
His looks would be improved by a train wreck.
