The Obama administration has approved a long-delayed, highly controversial offshore wind project off Cape Cod, Mass., the Interior Department said Wednesday morning.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is set to announce Wednesday afternoon in Boston the decision to grant federal permits to the Cape Wind project.
Cape Wind proposes to string 130 turbines in Massachusetts' scenic Nantucket Sound and supply the majority of the power on Cape Cod and nearby islands. In a decade-long fight, the project has divided Massachusetts politicians, earned objections from the Kennedy family and most recently drawn opposition from Native American tribes.
But Obama administration officials – and Salazar in particular – have made offshore wind power a cornerstone of their push to boost so-called "clean energy" in the United States, and thus were widely expected to approve the project, which has the support of Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.
"After careful consideration of all the concerns expressed during the lengthy review and consultation process and thorough analyses of the many factors involved, I find that the public benefits weigh in favor of approving" the project, Salazar said Wednesday in Boston. "With this decision we are beginning a new direction in our nation's energy future, ushering in America's first offshore wind energy facility and opening a new chapter in the history of this region."

...Denmark, the world’s most wind-intensive nation, with more than 6,000 turbines generating 19% of its electricity, has yet to close a single fossil-fuel plant. It requires 50% more coal-generated electricity to cover wind power’s unpredictability, and pollution and carbon dioxide emissions have risen (by 36% in 2006 alone)...

Salazar and the other Obamaa-ites pushing this stuff have to be paid off by somebody, most likely the Arabs and the “green technology” charlatans. These wind farms are a disaster everywhere else, so why not Cape Cod?

I guess that when “Patches” Kennedy goes back to live at the Kennedy Compound on Cape Cod, he’ll be able to see the distant wind turbines through the bottom of his vodka shot glass!
This announcement smells like the Goldman Sacks road show. This will be reversed due to enviorment issues and oddly enough the project will be moved to either Mississippi or Texas. Salazar will claim he tried his best, BUT.....
I think windpower would work just fine if we simply constructed a giant coal or nuke powered fan array, running 24-7, just upwind from those turbines.
I don’t know why someone among the Crop of Idiots known as environmentalists, hasn’t come up with this simple solution before.....
...Cape Wind is not listed as a publically traded company...I assume it’s a private investor group...when such a thing was attempted in my area it was all based on the Government subsidizing it...without govt. money it couldn’t be profitable.
Boy, it’s going to be so relaxing sailing and boating around those beautiful, quiet little structures. I wonder how the fish are going to react? We know how the birds love them!

None of the Kennedys are around any longer to oppose it. Instead of paying inheritance tax on the Kennedy Compound, they want to turn it into a government funded Teddy Shrine.

Perhaps they should talk to a NASCAR crew chief about draft and drag first.
They are not great to look at but you get used to it. They are providing good paying jobs in a very down economy. Maintenance is constant. The wind puts significant stress on the equipment.
One set of wind turbines that was installed kept breaking. Turned out the blades were too long and picking up more wind than the equipment could handle. They shortened the blades by two feet and that solved the problem.
