Poland Finds Nuke Material Behind Sofa
The Wall Street journal ^ | MARCH 26, 2010, 6:36 AM ET | Marcin Sobczyk

Poland has capacities to build a nuclear bomb, in fact it has enough fuel to build about a dozen. Shocking? The country is not on the list of states with nuclear capacities such as the U.S. and Russia, which are busy negotiating a new nuclear arms reduction treaty. Still, the Polish prime minister received an invitation to attend the April nuclear summit in Washington, D.C. Institute of Atomic Energy Polatom Buildings housing the Polish nuclear research reactor Maria, near Warsaw. Until now, there has been no information on the country possessing enough material or planning to build a nuclear bomb, so why should Poland be involved in a summit like that? As it turns out, Poland is among 44 countries included in an annex of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty that lists states with nuclear power or research reactors. According to a former chairman of the Polish nuclear administration, the country is capable of building nuclear weaponry thanks to a research reactor active since the early 1970s that has given it enough fuel for 10 or more bombs.

Same here...and I always get the added bonus of finding a little spare change to boot!

It’s the only country in the EU that has not experienced a single quarter of negative growth during financial crisis! No wonder Goldman Sachs wants in on the privatization action there....the Poles will need a nuclear defense against those snakes.

A couple comments:

I wonder how much they'll find behind the photocopy machine?

Somebody must have some good "Polish atom bomb" jokes.

Poland would be best off building a couple of nukes, as Western Europe and the US will not defend them should the Bear come growling again...

Agree. Poland needs to stay armed and ready for both The bear AND the boar.

Which reminds me of this story...

German Boars Run Wild

Savage beasts go shopping, try gardening, attend church
By Nick McMaster| Posted Mar 17, 08 4:25 PM CDT|

(Newser) – Wild boars wreaked havoc in a German town this weekend, attempting to shop for hardware, go to church, and do some gardening, Der Spiegel reports. One of the beasts, acting like "an elephant in a porcelain store," was eventually cornered at the checkout of the home-improvement center, police said. They shot that boar, and the others escaped to the wild.

The porcine rampage through the northwestern town of Lage was just the latest recent incident in Germany. Boars there have grown increasingly footloose since production of corn has increased, because the grain draws the hungry animals towards civilized areas. An aggressive boar pursued two Frankfurt police officers earlier this month, and a horde of the animals damages a historic Berlin graveyard last fall.

with the Russkies huffing and puffing at the front door and Obama yanking their missle shield protection, they should ABSOLUTELY go nuclear.

Yup, the question is how many Polish Engineers it will take to build one.

Just a couple, given what I've read they did with the German Enigma machine in WW II.

Cheers!

Beats me. It was in the original story. Are you saying that's *NOT* a wild German boar? I wouldn't know.

Warthog. Native to Africa. Heres a picture of a boar; of course its an American boar, so its likely a bit larger than your standard European boars....

A bit gamey I expect. The ribs would look more like beef ribs. The hams would be enormous. Barbaque for a lot of people.
