Your Answers are Confidental
U.S. Department of Commerce | March 17, 2010 | olepap

An insert in my Census questionnaire is quite explicit that the information collected by the Census cannot be used by law enforcement or tax collection agencies. It cannot be used in court. This means the threat of a fine is invalid.

Heres the boilerplate:

Federal law protects your privacy and keeps your answers confidential (Title 13, USSC). The answers you give on the census form cannot be obtained by law enforcement of tax collection agencies. Your answers connot be used in court. They cannot be obtained with a FOIA request.

Yeah, I believe EVERYTHING that's associated with THIS administration.

You don’t have to answer anything on that form, with possible the exception of “how many people live here”.

Everything asked on the Census questionnaire can be found by looking in the phone book and on the Internet..The government can save lots of money by putting their employees to work instead of spending lots of dollars sending out the forms..

I don't have to answer anything at all.

I live in MA. We're losing population as it is and I'm hoping that my state loses representation in the House. The people at my house won't be counted in the census.

They can't take me to court.

If you don’t answer, they send someone to your door to follow-up with even more questions.

Better to fill it out creatively.

I filled mine out yesterday and I thought the same thing. I look over online orders for the company I work for, and try to sniff out fraud. With free online databases, I can take someone’s address, or phone number, and tell you all sorts of things about them. I saw nothing on the form I filled out that couldn’t be obtained online.

Try running a name through zabasearch.com, or whitepages.com, or doing a reverse search. And for those who own their own homes, property appraiser databases are public property. Anybody can get your name from your address, and find out how much your taxes are, for that matter. Our local database gives the layout for each home, how much was paid, etc. All free for the searching.

It is an intimidation tactic. All you have to do is answer the number of people in the house. If they do come to your door, tell them you answered the question and shut the door.

It’s not the outside agencies I’m worried about.

they get nothing else without a warrant.

The point is it looks like you are protected from prosecution by the statement enclosed in the census. So if you decline to answer questions, or answer incorrectly, your answers cannot be used against you.

My guess is this falls right in there with the “ As long as the grass grows and the water flows” crap they fed the American Indians. Yeah, or until they find something they need there.

As for me, I have already sent my census from in. I gave them my name and birth date along with my wife's. Since we are the only ones living here, that is all they get.
Sad thing to say but I no longer trust my government.

Me too. I answered # 1-number of people living in my house. #2 got DECLINED with a line drawn from that question through to the end.

Our government can never again be trusted... like a wh0re wife or husband... once an adulterer always an adulterer. I answered only those few questions approved by the Constitution. I will be cordial to any Census worker they send to my house... but I will demand that they leave after I refuse to answer any other questions. If you must trust, "Trust but Verify".

> I filled mine out yesterday ...
The first question on the form asks how many people resided at the address on April 1, 2010.
If you fill out and send in the form now, the bastards in the administration are liable to get you for perjury, because you can’t answer for something in the future.

Question #1 I will answer. Question #9 I will check “Other” and write in “American”. Questions #2-8 & #10 will be written across the question in heavy black marker as NA.
