Romney tops bestseller list
Politico ^ | 3/10/2010 | Ben Smith

Mitt Romney's new book, "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness," will debut on top of the New York Times bestseller list due out March 21, a source tells me.

Romney's book tour has, so far, attracted pretty large crowds, serving -- along with the book sales -- to reassure his supporters that, though he may not draw Sarah Palin style hordes, he's a figure of genuine popular interest.

The Rove book is #1 on Amazon. I checked an hour ago.

What will it be on the NYT list? 101?

If anyone cooks the books, it has to be the NYT.

I am not worried about pro-life position in party platform since 99% of voters will never read that document.

However PUSHING abortion agenda of either kind BY A CANDIDATE is a loser in general election. That is because pro-life people tend to vote republican anyway, and it will certainly turn off independents and centrist democrat voters.

I prefer a republican who can win, over an anti-abortion purist who will lose in the general election.

The problem with not removing it from the platform is that we have to judge all official GOP candidates by the GOP Party Platform, to change that then we need to remove that plank from the platform, should we do that?

I thought we chose candidates based on primary elections, not party platform conformations. Can you name me some candidates who were not allowed to participate in a primary election because he/she did not conform with the party platform 100%?

If you can’t name such a disqualification, it does not matter if pro-life position remains in the platform.

I read your post and it struck me that you would run Rush Limbaugh off this thread if you had your way.

I"m not trying to start a fight here. I just posted an article. And I do expect that Romney will be a force in the 2012 primaries.

You sir need to invest in a Calendar. 2 years ago it was March 2008 and we had yet to get into the Republican Primaries. At this time 2 years ago I was still supporting Duncan Hunter. You cannot even get your chronology right.

Obama did not campaign on Abortion, but on vague neurolinguistic programming such as "Yes we can!" and "This is the moment the planet began to heal."

Dubya, like his father, went to full-blown wuss when it came to defending his ideals in the political arena among talking heads.

And like his father, set the country up for a sharp move to the left, led by a minority of hard-core liberals in power.

As far as the option of aborting, naaah. Don't use rape as a political football.

Get rid of the rapists.

And if it's a personal choice, you should be against ALL government funding of it, under ALL circumstances: there are women who have chosen life, even after rape.

I smell troll.

Cheers!

Calling some one a troll is the most idiotic response one can post here or anywhere. It shows “my way or highway” thinking. Never a winner in real life situations.

But most purists are born losers so it is not difficult to understand them.

If not Romney then who? I like Duncan Hunter a lot but he’s going nowhere. He has no money and hasn’t run a good campaign. If we nominate a buffoon like John McCain or Mike Huckabee then we are sure to lose to the Democrats. Is that what you want SoCalPol? Do you want another Clinton or worse Obama in the White House? We can’t afford that. No matter how bad you think Romney is, he is far superior to any of the 3 possible Democrats. SoCalPol, it’s people like you who get Democrats elected!

I am going to try and be polite in this discussion so that my comments are not removed by the moderator. You need an education in how the American Political System works. It really does not matter if the president is for or against abortion. He/She CANNOT do anything about it! Can you not get this through your thick skulls! The only way in which a president can conceivably do something about abortion is to nominate strict constructionist judges to the Supreme Court. If (and this is a big if) a case were to come to the the supreme court where Rowe v. Wade decision could be overturned the abortion decision goes back to the State Legislatures. Some states would probably outlaw abortion but the vast majority would not.
I can assure you of one thing, if Clinton or God help us Obama were to be nominated you will NOT get Supreme Court Justices who will overturn Rowe v. Wade.
Just to go on the record, I am against abortion but we a fighting an incredibly STUPID battle against it. By voting for Buffoons like Huckster and Co. you will assure a McCain victory and most likely a Clinton victory.
To win the battle over abortion we will first need to win the culture war. Then we can win the political war. How to do this? Well that is beyond the scope of this blog.
However it is possible but it will be a long and difficult struggle. However defeating Romney will be a disaster. You may get some perverse satisfaction from this but it is cutting off your nose to spite your face!
This is why H.L. Mencken will again be proven correct when he stated that nobody ever went broke betting against the intelligence of the American public.

Well if Rush Limbaugh were pro liberal, pro progressive, pro socialist, pro statist, pro communist or pro marxist, I would go after him and any candidate mentioned who happened to agree with those positions.

Too many republicans forget that this is a conservative site. When the republicans happen to be conservative, there is no problem but when we are told we have to support the Romneys, Crists, Lindsey Grahams, and DeDe Scuzzyfavas of the world because they are republicans, conservatives have big problems.

Anyone who thinks we should support everyone with (R) next to their name should remember this is a conservative site and the RINO republicans know where they can all go.

Romney is going to top the best seller list? If anyone doubts that this is how the corporations buy their favors ahead of the election, I have to sell you.

I would love to see a list of the people that bought his book.

The fact is that other than you and the real hate
which you and your fellow RomneyBOTs bring daily,
there is no other “hate”.
Daily, you and Peter Horry exude “hate” as you attack FReepers and Southern Baptists.

You both should be ashamed and go away.

Pan, PHUSA is #1 this week in the NYTimes paperback bestseller list, #10 on USAToday. And no, I didn't buy 100,000 copies (LOL).

BTW, some MIT guys did a study of how purchases affect Amazon rankings, and they calculated that a) a single block purchase (of, say, 10,000) is treated like a single purchase; and b) you have to have a heckuva lot of purchases to move a book. No one knows for sure, but our publisher thinks that top 10 on Amazon is many hundred a day, possibly 1,000 a day; and #1 should be good for over 1,000 a day. PHUSA was #1 for over a week!

RE: No dissent allowed.

There is a statement concerning that here:

Statement by the founder of Free Republic

Key statement: "Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc."

Differing opinions and lively debate in the realm of those conservative ideas are welcome from my experience as long as you don't start advocating for ideas and folks who are opposed to the above. Whether its Obama, Clinton, Guiliani, Romney or any other anti-liberty, anti-conservative statists, if you advocate for them you are anathema.

Romney should be sent packing given his/their
attacks on the VP Candidate during the Election
through surrogates.

Give one reason why such a "person" (Mitt RomneyCARE)
should be rewarded for the attacks by being allowed
to even be present.
