DECATUR, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A Decatur homeowner will not be charged for shooting an intruder Wednesday morning. DeKalb County police said 40-year-old Dexter Tucker was justified in shooting a 17-year-old who broke into his home.

Tucker said he had run the scenario of an intruder in his mind many times before, but he never thought it would actually happen.

Tucker said he was asleep when he heard knocking at the front door. The Decatur man said he peered through the shades but didn't answer the door.

"Then he started beating on the door," Tucker recalled.

Tucker said he saw a young man run to the back door and that's when he grabbed his gun.

"I couldn't believe he was kicking in my door and it took him like four kicks to get in so by the time he got in I was ready for him," Tucker said.

Tucker said he shot the intruder three times, striking him once in the thigh. The homeowner said he then saw another young man running away.

3 shots and he only hit him once?

He needs to get to the range more often.

I admire the burglar’s stealth. Sneaky, smooth; classy.

Uh huh.

You will note the deliberate lack of description of the criminals in the article indicating that the criminals were black.

Knocking on the door, then beating on the door...

Not a good combo...

Once again the fact that the homeowner is clearly identified, and the recipient of the defensive gunfire is vague (at best) is something that needs to be corrected...If one party is identified, then either we keep the names withheld till after legal procedings are completed, or bring it ALL out, regardless if they are “technically” a minor, or not...

This BS about a 17 year old needing to remain anonymous when they are “suspected or alleged” to have committed a crime like this is ludicrous...

Earlier this week they had an “officer involved shooting” in Houston...The officer was clearly identified by name and their length of service to this city (15 years), but the person that made a threatening move and received the defensive fire was never mentioned other than being shot by the officer..No name, age, gender, race, etc etc etc...

This disparity needs to be rectified across the country...

3 shots and he only hit him once?

If that is the question, the answer is "Mossburg 500".

I just didn’t want to criticize the Citizen in a time of turmoil. I’m sure he’ll seek the range in the near future.
