An upstate graduate student was charged yesterday with stabbing a beloved anthropology professor to death. Saudi national Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani, 46, was held without bail for the murder of Binghamton University professor Richard Antoun, 77, an expert on comparative religion, authorities said. Al-Zahrani, a cultural-anthropology grad student, allegedly pulled out a six-inch kitchen knife and stabbed Antoun four times in the chest in the professor's campus office Friday.

An “honor” killing, no doubt.

Another case of domestic terrorism that our government will ignore!
This is like watching the Japs approaching Pearl on the radar screen and just repeating "All is well...All is well...All is well...."

Sweet Jesus! What a horrific story, I am struck, however, by the age of the murderer, 46..
To: LiberConservative
"Abdulsalam" is Arabic for "servant of peace." Therefore it could not have been a hate crime.
Probably a peace crime.

A graduate student ... Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani, 46
Maybe the professor told him it was time to grow up and go get a real job.

Yep... The press and the authorities and the university are still repeating the standard mantra of "the motive for the killing was unknown", when only an idiot would be confused about the motive. Gee, I just don't know. It must have been a dispute about grades or something, right?
Islamist fundamentalist kills Jewish professor who wrote a book about comparative religions. I can't possibly imagine a motive for such a crime.

It could be grade related. Perhaps the professor had a surprise quiz.

The professor probably forgot to say "Peace be upon him" once when saying Mohammed's name, so the grad student had to stab him to death.

The professor was an expert in comparative religion. Perhaps he wasn't deferential enough to Islam for Al-Zahrani. You will know them by their works.

Yes - I was surprised to see how old he was too.
Story is getting stranger.
Apparantly he had 2 roomates, one of whom he charged at with a knife. For some strange reason this incident was not reported to the police or to the university, and they kept on living together (would you be able to sleep under those conditions?)
Also - one e-mail rant of his has been released and it appears he is less than intelligent.
OK - he sounds downright dumb and loony.
Let’s see if any reporters dig deep enough to try and figure out how he got admitted in the first place.
He clearly did not belong there and this prof had the misfortune of having to deal with it.
