Conservatives seeking a gleam of hope amid gloomy prospects for November are beginning to turn their eyes toward sunny Florida, where an Iraq war veteran is waging a David-and-Goliath battle for Congress.
Allen West, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who made headlines five years ago with his gunpoint interrogation of an Iraqi prisoner, is challenging first-term Democratic Rep. Ron Klein in Florida's 22nd District.
After the 2006 midterm meltdown that helped Klein defeat 13-term incumbent Clay Shaw, many Republicans -- including presidential candidate Sen. John McCain -- are campaigning as boring centrists.
West, however, is bringing a back-to-basics conservative message. He takes a strong stance against illegal immigration, favors drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and criticizes free-spending Washington ways. -excerpt-

I was spreading the word on West in the last campaign, his first run. The GOP ignored him - he’s a threat, like Sarah Palin, to their good-old-boy club...so they don’t give him campaign money.
We need this man in the pipeline.

Hopefully, the Tea Parties across the country are finding more people like Palin and West that will run - and we have thousands of returning soldiers - pray we get candidates from their ranks.
PALIN/WEST would be an awesome ticket for 2012!!!!!!!
Allen West was also a speaker at FR’s convention this past September in Washington, DC.
He brought the house down everytime he took the state.
Allen is a wonderful person, a true Patriot, a hero and conservative.
I hope every Freeper takes the time to find out about Lt. Col Allen West, we need him in Congress!!
I live just a few miles away from West’s district. I’m stuck with that weasel Wexler. I will definitely work for West.
Don’t wait, help Allen now. I’m outside of his district but am fully behind him, raising funds, going to his events and telling anyone who will listen how wonderful he is.
There are few people in this world who can get me to my feet clapping and screaming or bring me to tears. Allen is one of them.
He gets it. He has given his life for this country and would die for it.
Allen must be sent to Congress - and many more like him.

Hi, Is Wexler up for re-election in 2010? If so, who is in the field on the Republican side to run against him?
Weasel boy will NOT be running for reelection. He’s going to head up some middle eastern think tank. Not sure who’s going to run for his seat.
