Coming to the Defense of Rush Limbaugh (Syndicated Newspaper Cartoon Smears Rush as Klansman)
Chicago Tribune ^ | Monday, October 19, 2009 | Eric Zorn

I'm no fan of Rush Limbaugh, goodness knows, but I rise defensively at today's "La Cucaracha" comic strip, appearing in the Sun-Times and other papers.

In the strip -- which is several days behind the news, though through no fault of the creator -- the TV burbles:

Conservative broadcaster Rush Limbaugh is trying to purchase a stake in an NFL franchise. If the deal goes through, Limbaugh hopes to change the team's name to "The St. Louis Klans."

That's just wrong.

This is what passes for humor these days?

Liberals, and their MSM b*tches, are the true racists.

Hey, now he can run for Senate. How about Byrd’s seat?

The left’s penchant for throwing out names and labels is so shopworn I doubt anyone takes it seriously in the least. The ‘race card’ has gotten so dog-earred as to be unrecognizable.

The Balt. Ravens can change their name to the Baltimore Murderers and the Steelers will become the Dog Killers. What a laugh riot! They can’t criticize ibama, so they HAVE to come up with something to poke fun at. Just go back to the old tired conservative-is-klansman stuff.

Good humor is based on truth. This cartoon needs to feature a team purchased by Robert Byrd, then it would have a chance at being funny.

My current reading is “The Making Of The President 1968” written by a man considered a “don” of the mainstream media in his day, Theodore H. White.

In disucssing radicalism and race in 1968 White made an observation about how the Left operated then that applies to us today.

“Discussion in the new language has the quality, frequently, of a game of intellectual tag—the man who can first pin the proper name on the enemy wins. The best label to pin, for example, on any adversary, is racist. Once that tag has been pinned, no denial can wipe it away and moral sanction has been set up for any action that follows the pinning of the label.”

White, by the way, was noting that “racist” was being used to give moral justification to actions like looting and killing during the riots of the 1960’s.

Now “racist” is being used to justify excluding people from doing business like Rush Limbaugh was trying to do.

I suspect Rush is lawyered up.. and actions will be forthcoming to seek redress for defamation of character and slander.

Did anyone see Rush’s column in the WSJ? The Boston Herald reported yesterday that Sharpton is going to sue him ovr the Crown Heights and Clothing Store fire that many accuse Sharpton if inciting. I hope he does. Discovery could lead to criminal charges against Sharpton for 2nd Degree Murder.

Having been of college age in the 1960’s, I can tell you that you make an excellent point. The purpose of these accusations, then and now, was to demonize the opponent and end the debate - to the advantage of the person making the accusation. The political Left in this country have never been a freedom-loving lot, regardless of what they profess verbally.

It’s ridiculous that Rush Limbaugh should be excoriated and banned for his comments, while Sharpton, whose statements are far worse and an encouragement to violence, is legitimized by liberals as a “civil rights leader”.
