There he goes again. Newsmax has published an interview with Mitt Romney in which he once again touts his big government Massachusetts health care plan as a monumental success:
"What we were able to accomplish was to get almost all of our citizens insured without breaking the bank and without having a so-called public option," Romney says. "I think the program is a real success and that it can teach lessons to other states, and to the nation."
To start with, Romney is wrong on the merits. Michael Cannon has done an excellent job documenting what a colossal failure Romneycare has been, bringing higher costs and longer wait times to citizens of Massachusetts. The Massachusetts Taxpayer Foundation numbers Romney cites in his interview understated the cost of the legislation by, among other things, ignoring the program's cost to the federal government. Even the state's Democratic State Treasurer, Timothy P. Cahill, has told the Boston Globe that the promised savings from the universal health care legislation never materialized, and he cautioned that, "It's a warning for the federal government as it looks to do something similar.''

What's the difference again, between the socialism Romney imposed on the taxpaying voters of Massachusetts, and the socialism the Democrats want to impose on the rest of us?
Ping!
So the entire country thinks its a bad idea and he doesn’t get it.
GET RID OF THE RINOs
What amazes me is that this story doesn’t seem to be an automatic disqualification for a Romney Presidential nomination by some on this board.
And People want this RHINO in the presidency? I don’t think so.
How about a real republican if we can find one.
We aren't fighting socialism with this guy behind enemy lines fighting us too. He IS the enemy.
I hope all the Romneybots stop by for a visit on this thread.................but I wouldn’t wait up past bedtime............probably not going to happen.
Shut up Mitt!
Oh, yeah, let’s all get behind this conservative believer in small gov’t. /s
the “conservative’s conservative” /sarc
Sorry Laura..still love ya but you really blew it with that one
Romney was the first person I’d ever heard use the silly analogy that people can be forced to carry health insurance just as they are forced to carry auto insurance. Sorry Romney/Obama I may need a license, insurance and proof of registration to drive on a public road . . . but I don’t need any of those things merely to exist. My body is not your property, and you will not force me to insure it as if it were.
We aren't fighting socialism with this guy behind enemy lines fighting us too. He IS the enemy.
We need to insist that the GOP reject Romney.
I don't know where to start, but maybe with a list of those Romney is doling out money to through his PAC. That money will no doubt come with strings attached, and Romney will use those strings to drag the Republican Party to the left.
Ask them to give the money back.
Gee, how’d those socialist thoughts and actions work for you in ‘08 Mitt?
He needs to be barred from the GOP.
Why is this guy still anyone’s favorite for a candidate in 2012. This is worse than McCain.
isnt his state screwed because of healthcare?
NO RINOS!!! Take them out of the straw polls as well!!
There were substantive differences, but the similarities between “RomneyCare” and the proposed HR 3200 are enough reason to find fault with both.
Gov. Romney is starting to wear me out with this. I think it’s accurate to say that his version of Government Health Care is about as good as could be expected from Government Health Care - that is, it’s very, very bad.
Romney’s idea of opening up insurance markets, reducing mandates, and offering public assistance for low income people had some merit. (I didn’t like it, but I was willing to see how it worked out)
It now serves as an outstanding example of why even the best intentioned Government Health Care will fail. Within 2 years it became saturated with patronage positions, obscene red tape, and endless additional mandates placed on Insurance companies by the Mass. legislature.
Time to give this one up Gov. Romney !
