Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, - "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would the news outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations, it has one cosponsor, - Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

The White House is playing down the idea of government assistance for news organizations, due to dwindling ad revenue in the economic climate.

They are now LAME - this means Fox, Limbaugh, Hannity, Malkin, Free Republic and Drudge are the MAIN STREAM MEDIA.

The paradigm has now completed it's shift!

Use the term "Lame Stream Media" anytime you can and pass it on!

I understand your point, and it’s valid IF you view the media’s position in a snapshot of where they are right now.

But I think it’s equally valid to view the driveby media in terms of their trajectory — and where they are headed is to the fringe. No money, no credibility, zombies, replace by the “alternative media” (which will become mainstream).

It’s a page out of Alinsky to use words — which as you point out DO have meaning — to “frame” them as “fringe”, and then drive them there.

This morning, the ACORN scandal was raised to Charlie Gibson in an interview on WLS AM Chicago’s “Don Wade & Roma Morning Show.”

TRANSCRIPT:

Don: Ok here’s my question, Senate bill yesterday passes cutting off funds to this group called ACORN. Now we got the…we got that bill passing, we got the embarrassing video of ACORN staff giving tax advice on how to set up a brothel with 13 year old hookers. It has everything you could want corruption and sleazy action at tax funded organizations that’s got government ties. But nobody’s covering that story why?

Charlie Gibson: (laugh) I don’t even know about it. Uh, so you got me at a loss, I don’t know. Uh, uh, but, but My goodness if it’s got everything including sleaziness in it we should talk about it this morning.

Roma: This is the American way…

Charlie Gibson: Well maybe, maybe that’s one you just leave to the cables.

Roma: Well I think that this is a huge issue because there’s so much funding that goes into this organization and it’s a multi…

Charlie Gibson: Well, I know we’ve done some stories about ACORN before but uh, uh this one I don’t know about.

Roma: Jake Tapper did some blogging on it. I know he’s at least blogged once on this scandal.

Charlie Gibson: You guys, you guys are really up on the uh on the website.

CNN Uses Pro-Communist American to Tout Cuban Health Care

There’s something deeply wrong with journalism that scrutinizes and criticizes the institutions of free and successful nations, but produces puff pieces on the supposed achievements of totalitarian dictatorships. On Thursday, CNN aired a piece of Communist Party propaganda about how Cuba could serve as “a model for health care reform” in the United States, complete with an authoritative sound bite from an American medical expert, identified only as someone “who’s lived and worked in Cuba for decades.”

But the expert, Gail Reed, is a longtime admirer of the Cuban revolution, married to the Cuban official who served as ambassador to Grenada in the early 1980s when U.S. troops liberated the island from hardline communists who had executed the leftist Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. She's also worked at Granma, Cuba’s official communist party newspaper.

As for Reed, she was profiled in the Miami Herald back in 1983 after she and her husband returned to Cuba after American forces liberated Grenada. She talked about the fear she felt at seeing U.S. Marines surrounding the Cuban embassy, and told the newspaper, “I feel I have a very strong identification with the Cuban revolution.”

“When I first came to Cuba in the ’70s, I was very impressed with their efforts in building a new kind of society,” Reed explained.

501(c)3’s can “supposedly” participate in issues advocacy, but may not endorse a specific candidate. But there is a lot of gray area in this and groups like the Conservative Coalition have been taken to court because of their Voter’s Guides, which advocated stands on certain issues, but did not endorse candidates.

Churches are not supposed to endorse candidates, but that law is obviously not applied universally.

That’s my understanding.
