Hmmmm...was them the rules when we had President Bush...do you know?
Money post. BTTT.
I have to agree with WOSG, though, that it is not customary to display arms around legislators and that it would be a good idea to refrain voluntarily in non-crime areas from exercising this particular right -- while yielding nothing at all on the right.
After all, when it hit the fan on the University of Texas campus years ago, the sniper on the clock tower was quickly suppressed by all the armed civilians who produced their long guns from their gun-racks (open display was the rule). It was noted after the event was over, that the sniper did not succeed in killing another person after he began to receive accurate return fire from dozens of Texans.
HYPOTHETICAL
Something to think about: If Squeaky Fromme showed up at Obama's next rally and started shooting, and a bunch of armed civilians began shooting back at her, would the Secret Service snipers then feel obliged to kill all the armed civilians they could see?
We need some more explicit understanding of who's a good guy when bullets begin flying and everybody grabs his iron.
If no modus vivendi emerges, then screw the modus vivendi, we go back to asserting our rights. Otherwise the liberals will use our own impulse for moderation to screw us to the wall ideologically.
I've seen other posts that say he was a Ron Paul supporter, a libertarian who openly asserted the Second Amendment as his reason for carrying, even near the President.
So do you have a link? This is still a gray area -- who was this guy and what was he trying to prove?
HYPOTHETICAL No.2
What if Obama's Secret Service detail had gone out into the crowd, confronted the man, and demanded his weapon "on principle" -- trying to establish a new "principle" that nobody has 2A rights around the President, when SecTreas says otherwise?
So then does the guy have to go to jail to assert his right? What if they get tactical with him and offer to shoot him on the spot if he doesn't surrender his weapon? What sort of "principle" would that be a precedent for? Or would the guy have to die to sustain our rights?
What Liberals SHOULD fear are bullets. They only hear them coming when they are not the target. Yet that is....
That’s a good question...I did not even think about that. I will ask him if that’s always been the case with every president.
