Today marks the 40th anniversary the Manson Family murdered Rosemary and Leno La Bianca. Although not nearly as well known as some of the other Manson victims including actress Sharon Tate, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, and noted men's hair stylist Jay Sebring (his clients included actors such as Steve McQueen), the La Biancas, who were brutally murdered the night after the Tate murders, should be remembered on this day especially now that some of their killers are actively seeking parole.
Leno La Bianca was born in Los Angeles and followed his father into the grocery store business. He owned a chain of grocery stores called the Gateway Ranch Markets. He later developed a passion for breeding and racing thorougbred race horses. Leno La Bianca purchased the Los Feliz home, the house in which he was raised, from his mother. Unlike the Tate residence which was razed and replaced, the La Bianca home still stands today and looks much like it did on that awful night August 10, 1969. The home is only a few minutes away from our own house and I am quite familiar with the area. For many years there were constantly "for sale" signs in front of the residence, but lately it seems to have had stable ownership. Next door to the home is a stately priest retirement retreat as well the home of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The property was donated to the LA Archdiocese by a wealthy Catholic philanthropist, Bernadine Murphy Donohue. Mrs. Donohue died just one year before the La Bianca murders in in 1968. She had the rare honor of being made a Papal Countess by Pope John XXIII because of all of her charitable work. Mrs. Donohue is now interred right next to Cardinal McIntyre in the mausoleum underneath the Cathedral in downtown LA. Also interred in this mausoleum are the Roman martyr St. Vibiana and actor Gregory Peck.
The house on the other side of the La Bianca residence belonged to Harold True. Members of the Manson Family including Charles Manson had attended a party at this residence which is why it was familiar to him. Manson himself creepy crawled into the house next door, the La Bianca residence and tied up both Rosemary and Leno La Bianca before sending in Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten to brutally murder the couple.
Rosemary La Bianca was orphaned as a young child and later adopted by a couple who had lost their young daughter. Both Rosemary and Leno were divorced and had children from their first marriages before they were married in 1960. Leno had met her while she was working as a waitress at a Los Feliz restaurant. Rosemary turned into quite a business person and had opened up an upscale women's clothing store called the Boutique Carriage. In addition this, Mrs. La Bianca was a successful investor in the stock market and was worth well several million dollars at the time of her death making her even wealthier than coffee heiress Abigail Folger who was murdered the night before at Sharon Tate's house in Bel Air.
The Manson killers left behind a grisly crime scene at the La Bianca residence including the writing of things like Helter Skelter on the refigerator door using the blood of the victims. The word "war" was engraved in Mr. LaBianca's stomach and a fork was left protuding from his abdomen and knife was found still lodged in his throat. Both Mr. and Mrs. La Bianca suffered from a tremendous number of stab wounds. Mrs. La Bianca's killers struck so savagely, they even continued stabbing her after she was dead.
This is all very important to remember because all of the killers are all still alive today and some are even seeking parole including one Mrs. La Bianca's killers, Leslie Van Houten. Charles "Tex" Watson, the man who murdered Mr. La Bianca, will probably never get out. But his prison life hasn't been so bad. He has actually married and fathered a family while serving his sentence. One of the Manson killers, Susan Denise Atkins, has terminal brain cancer and could be released before she dies. She murdered Sharon Tate but was not present at the La Bianca residence the following night.
All of the Tate-La Bianca killers were appropriately sentenced to death for their insanely evil crimes, but thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, their death sentences were automatically commmuted to life imprisonment. Let us all pray none of them ever get out. And let us also offer some special prayers for the victims and their survivors of this horrible crime on this anniversary date.

Yes I am aware of Bernadine Dohrn’s enthusistic endorsement of the Manson Murders. She and her terrorist husband Bill Ayers have after many years achieved a level of respect and and have been accepted into the elite of the Chicago establishment. BHO, Dohrn, and Ayers live in the same radical chic neighborhood of Hyde Park in Chicago. BHO launched his first political campaign at a fundraiser at Ayer’s and Dohrn’s house.
The 1960s are remembered by some as being an era great music, free love, drugs, and protest. The Mansons and the Weather Underground represented the dark and violent side of this violent, anarchist, anthing goes counterculture. Many of these counter culture types are comfortably esconsed in the Democrat Party and as tenured college professors.
