I have yet to see any sort of verification of the “large sums of money” spent on lawyers for this.
I think Obama is letting this stew, and when it becomes big enough, they will release it, and make all these people look stupid, burst their bubble, and make anyone who criticizes him fit into the category of “those crazy birthers” from then on.
The Democrats have already started exploiting this, IMO. They are trying to tar the GOP with the birther brush (hence the recent increase in media coverage of this issue) to try to make them look like kooks.

...interesting thought you have! This would accomplish 2 things for BO. Make the “crazy birthers” and most conservatives look stupid AND allow him to continue his agenda on the basis of...we can’t tell you HOW this’ll work. Just that it’ll work. He’ll garner a trust factor that could last long enough for a 2nd term and who knows...office for life.
It's an interesting strategy to make the voting public suspicious and mistrustful of his honesty, integrity and right to be President. Plus it seems to be impacting his ability to institute his agenda. Do you believe the number of birthers is increasing or decreasing the longer this goes on?
