it was around 3% that fought the Revolutionary war. But to get that many you need about 1/2 the population to side with you.
About 1/3 were Patriots, 1/3 were Tories and about 1/3 neutral.
There were huge civil riots against the Tories and much of their property was burned, confiscated or forfeited to the mobs. As another poster said, we are too polite to riot and burn property, but that’s really what it takes.
