Hi Mnehring.

It’s not a case of guilt by association at all. In the story, I made mention that some people had said such comments shouldn’t be on the site.

Again, it’s not about the general population. Nor is it about the inappropriate remarks. It’s about the site owners taking them down, then reinstating them and mocking someone who complained.

The same way “all Kossacks” aren’t evil hatemongers, nor are “all Freepers”. If I didn’t make that clear enough in the piece, I apologize.

LOL, I can even imagine you putting your pinkie to the corner of your mouth and fluttering your eye lashes when you typed that.

Actually, according to the mods on a thread yesterday, they where removed as are all racist comments, but when it appeared something fishy was going on by the fact that KOS had a copy of the posts within minutes and most where by newbies, they restored it to show that most FReepers where attacking the racist posts and to show we weren't trying to hide them. There was no 'mocking' of those who complained by the mods. It is apparent you wrote your story from the KOS post, not seeing the original article because you only mention the few members who stood up, not the fact that most did. From what I understood also, it was taken down again and those posters where zotted.

An intrepid reporter might ask how KOS where able to get those posts so quickly and why it was all over the place within five minutes.

Mouthing off on the internet is normal, you admitted doing it yourself and you should admit, those comments you made where far more vile than the ones you saw here. The real story it seems is how some sites attempt to create a story by making statements to paint the other side the way they want. An entire book was written on this called "Hillary's Secret Warriors". It was exposed how the DNC had professional bloggers infltrate sites like this and plant comments to either raise discord or create false images.

There is an entire war going on in the internet for controlling the story line. Most people these days look up a story by a Google search, so things like Google Bombing to control the story have become the norm (you would know about that wouldn't you.) Maybe it is time to step back and look at the big picture, not just some anonymous comments on the internet. As yourself why MSNBC, for example, devotes so much time to this. How is that any different than going into a bar and evesdropping on drunk folks and making news about that?

Are you going to be an intrepid journalist in the cut of Woodward and Bernstein or are you going to just be another tool?

An apology here on Free Republic is nowhere near enough.

It’s that they were approved by mods, removed, then reinstated after review.

We need to step in here because you are continuing to pass along a lot of bad information. They where not 'approved by mods, removed, then reinstated'. The accounts had reached the threshold where the posts didn't need approval to post. They posted them, as soon as they where caught, they where removed as any racist post would be. They where only restored for a short period when KOS started throwing a fit, not because they where acceptable comments, but we wanted to show how most of the site attacked racist posts and called them out as unacceptable.

It wasn't clear at all and you know it. You're attempting to change the point of the story. A start might be to add to your article your above post and the explanation from the moderator on why the thread went back up. Maybe admit you, yourself, have made some pretty stupid comments that, to this day--years after making them-- still remain posted on the KOS site. Why does KOS think that is okay? I didn't see any other members denouncing those comments.

If you weren't clear, not only does Free Republic deserve an apology, your readers, among others do also. And, it should be added to your article. Fair is fair, right?
