I've seen some of the BB Goldens and I'm afraid that intelligence has not been the goal . . . but really the show Goldens are the same way (as are some of the show Labs).
The Goldens and the Labs that are bred for the field are a completely different breed of cat from the show dogs. Really the two types have diverged to the point that a show dog can't do well in the field, and a field dog would be laughed at in the show ring.
My first Lab is by a show sire (who couldn't find a duck in a phone booth if you poured gravy on it) out of a field dam, a daughter of the only Chocolate Lab ever to win a field title. She is sort of halfway between the two body types, her body is rather chunky, but her head (and what's inside it) is pure field type Lab. My second Lab is ALL field both in body type and temperament, although she has a better head than most because her sire is noted for throwing typey heads.

BEAUTIFUL, AAM.
Lovely dogs! I need to find someone who’ll lend me a large, placid dog for a weekend to see how my too-many cats will react. I want a collie, but I’d like to gauge the level of unhappiness my cats will feel before making that commitment.
