Sarah Palin trashed by members of John McCain's campaign team in Vanity Fair

Alaska's lipstick-wearing pit-bull is a "Little Shop of Horrors."
That's how one longtime friend and campaign trail companion of John McCain, the vanquished 2008 GOP presidential nominee, described veep nominee Sarah Palin.
In an expansive story in the August edition of Vanity Fair, a slew of senior members of McCain's campaign team told reporter Todd S. Purdum that they suffer a kind of survivor's guilt following the 2008 presidential election.
"They can't quite believe that for two frantic months last fall, caught in a Bermuda Triangle of a campaign, they worked their tails off to try to elect as vice president of the United States someone who, by mid-October, they believed for certain was nowhere near ready for the job, and might never be," Vanity Fair reports.
During the campaign, there were reports of anonymous McCain aides describing Palin, the governor of Alaska, as a "diva" and a "whack job."
The Vanity Fair article recounts how strained Palin's relationship was with the McCain advisers. She maintained "only the barest level of civil discourse" with Tucker Eskew, the operative assigned to be her chief minder, the magazine reports.
She believed Steve Schmidt, McCain's top strategist, had lied to her about conducting polling in Alaska - that was a "belief she conveyed to anyone who would listen," the magazine reported.

Yeah, thanks! So which of these weasels came out of the Romney organization? That’s the $64,000 question...
If I’d been a McCain adviser I’d keep my mouth shut.
It’s like bragging that you have a dog with the clap.
Snort. My beliefs on this issue come from watching and reading Steve Schmidt and Meghan McCain (I think they each possess about the same aptitude as political strategists). This Palin-bashing stuff was coming out, FROM THE INSIDE, even before the election was over. See AliVeritas post at #97.
McCain's advisers were sabotaging Palin during the campaign, the Couric interview being Exhibit 1. McCain-Palin "adviser" Nicolle Wallace is Katie Couric's Best Friend.
Please tell us more about your trip up to AK and how they feel about Gov. Palin. We down here in the lower 48 do not get much on the ground info about Gov. Palin.
To a person local business owners , and are very supportive of her. The 80% approval rating among the general population is also real as we had a chance to ask directions from locals, and engage in general conversation.
They appreciate how she negotiated a deal with the oil companies to provide them with a payment for each family member ( as I recall about $4000 each)
They also see her as walking the talk , especially on representing them, and having true family values.
These are people, especially the full time residents, who know what tough is regarding weather, economy, surviving, and they see that in Sarah.
They particularly like her straightforward style. They are no nonsense people who tell it like it is.
P.S. They have a standing invite to the Washington crowd to survive an Alaskan winter to shake some common sense into their heads............
P.S.S. Of course Michelle would have to cover her arms
That could your incoherently stated view of this matter, depending, of course, upon what you're snorting.
McCain adviser Nicole Wallace Katie Couric's Best Friend.
Steve Schmidt, McCain Campaign Manager: Religion could kill the GOP.
'Conservatives for Palin' has identified Mark Mckinnon, Tucker Eskew, Nicole Wallace, John Feehery, Carl Forti, Kevin Madden and Michelle Laxalt as former Romney supporters who worked for McCain's campaign. There they go again.
and you didn't even attempt a defense of the 'suspend campaign over TARP' strategy.
Your rep precedes you, so I expect a non-ending series of lame responses if I continue to reply, so don't be sad if I don't reply again.
The problem for her GOP opponents is that there is nothing too really latch on to. The bogus fraud issue did not pan out for Alaska’s GOP and its Demrat handlers. I think the media has played out the unwed daughter story as far it can go. And the criticism from Demrats for not aborting her Down’s Syndrom baby is also passe at this point.
If she can maintain a clean and fiscally responsible administration through to the next presidential primaries there is no Pubbie candidate that will be able to compete with her.
Of course, that does not mean there could be all sorts of false allegations made and to which she would have to respond. But she’s been pretty good at blowing by that stuff so far.
Personally, if I were her I would start drilling for oil in Alaska whether or not it’s on so-called Federal land or state land. It would be interesting to see the Feds try to make a case for stopping her from making Alaska independent from foreign oil.
I jettisoned such venality in grade school.
You are correct in one assertion: My reputation for integrity is world renown.
Would that you adhere, as I do, to the conservative principle of requiring proof before accepting specious claims, even (or especially) about those with whom you disagree, politically.
That’s how one longtime friend and campaign trail companion of John McCain, the vanquished 2008 GOP presidential nominee, described veep nominee Sarah Palin......
Bullcrap!...This is all from the whack left!
A new oxymoron.
McCainiacs will never understand that their candidate never appealed to conservatives, that the only reason we voted for him was because of Palin.
I doubt this country would be much better off with McCain in the Oval Office. I really have no clue how he would react to recent issues, because he's usually all over the map, and always trying to "reach across the aisle".
That’s right.
Not ONE named and quoted source.
Just grade school rumor mongering.
Step up your game: You’re being made a fool of.

Meanwhile, on the day Purdums piece hit the web (today), a journalist who had expressed suspicions in the past that elements of the McCain campaign had undercut Palin suddenly got a friendly e-mail from top McCain-Palin campaign strategist Steve Schmidt. This journalist hadnt heard from Schmidt in months. Perhaps Steve was nervous someone would finger him for the Purdum piece. One reason people might do so is this passage in Purdums article: All the while, Palin was coping not only with the crazed life of any national candidate on the road but also with the young children traveling with her. Some top aides worried about her mental state: was it possible that she was experiencing postpartum depression? (Palins youngest son was less than six months old.) In fact, one aide who raised this possibility in the course of trashing Palins mental state to others in the McCain-Palin campaign was Steve Schmidt.
William Kristol's first hand account of Steve Schmidt's undercutting Sarah Palin during the campaign!!! He's slandered her from the get-go. I don't need any more proof that he was one of Purdum's sources for this Vanity Fair article. And it has nothing to do with 'leftist propaganda'.
Kristol DOES NOT say HE heard Schmidt say ANYTHING.
If he had, there would be a QUOTE for attribution offered.
This is rumor mongering ———— and 7 months old, at that.
Stop it.
Man, you are sure thick. What don’t you understand about Kristol’s words, “In fact,” .... He doesn’t just throw out “In fact” without firsthand knowledge. He’s reached his limit with the dishonesty of Schmidt, McCain, et al and he’s naming names.
The only fool around here is you, Cedric.
Case in point: It took the RidgeRunner 4 minutes to ride to your “rescue” with his typical blather. And that did you absolutely no good, did it?
YOU'VE BEEN HAD.
This is an unfounded, unattributed, old, rumor which has been recycled to dupe weak minded people who seemingly never wise up.
