Burgess: We need 7 votes to 'bring down' climate bill @ 1:32 pm by Michael O'Brien

Republicans are seven votes away from "bringing down" the climate change bill favored by Democrats and scheduled for a vote Friday, Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) claimed this afternoon.

Citing the 217-205 rules vote on the bill earlier in the morning, Burgess tweeted from the Hill that Republicans were close to downing the legislation, a top priority of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and President Obama.

Burgess tweeted Friday:

No R's voted in favor of the rule. 30 Dems voted no. We are 7 votes away from bringing this down.

Indeed, no Republican voted for the rules, and three lawmakers — Reps. John Culberson (Texas), Jeff Flake (Ariz.) and John Sullivan (Okla.) — missed the vote.

I am screaming it. I think they know it in their subconscious; they just don’t want to admit it.

More and more I’ve been thinking about the French Revolution. The Jacobins wanted to bring the king down, and they did, but then found that governing was difficult. Pretty soon the Jacobins were struggling amongst themselves, with the most radical people rising to the top — portraying themselves as champions of the poor and down-trodden. Once these folks had power they started the Reign of Terror, killing those revolutionaries were not sufficiently extremist (as well as a great many members of the clergy). In the end, this did not work out well.

In the end, the French Revolution resulted in the modernization and rationalization of the French government and the spread of liberal ideas throughout Europe. I don’t think that was such a bad result. Surely the French republic is better than the monarchy during the Ancien Regime.

I am coming from a human point and history. We are an educated country and the Congress should know that they will not have jobs if they give Obama, the liar, what he wants. It just doesn’t compute. Congress has the power now; but they will NOT if they vote Obamas bills in.

The French Revolution was profoundly anti-religion, and pro-socialism. They wanted equal outcomes more than equal opportunities. They wanted price controls. Some of them wanted to abolish all privaye property. The chaos didn't settle down until Napoleon stepped in and crowned himself emperor. He became a military dictator who spread war to Egypt, Spain, Germany, Italy and Russia. Eventually, the French decided they'd be better off with a Bourbon king back on the throne.

But I guess some folks would consider all that to have been a good thing.

The reference was to classical liberalism, that is what is called conservatism today in America. Too bad you are not well enough educated to have understood that.

Well, Sullivan won’t be making it to the floor. He’s still in treatment at Betty Ford. But where are the other two. Why are they AWOL?

He also said that those who vote for this bill "have seen their last days in Congress in front of them. They are going to lose. The majority of them are going to lose re-election."

Did Harry Reid say this, or is this Rush's analysis? If Harry said it, it shows that fear has taken hold inside the Rat Ship. If Rush said it, it's not nearly as telling.

I am glad to hear someone else say that

only because I have been thinking the same thing lately

America is more like the French at the time of the French Revolution the America at its founding morally speaking

I Just finished Citizens by Simon Schama

So many parallels to our times

According to Schama the leaders in the "Reign of Terror" Where Lawyers,Actors and News Media people (Almost unbelievable The word terrorism was coined in the french Revolution , Holocaust came from the french revolution etc... The part with Robespierre at the Festival of the Supreme Being reminds me of Obama giving that speach by the greek columns

I would like to see a forum started on the French Revolution and its parallels to our times
