Some days it seems Republicans' greatest hope is that Democrats will self destruct.
Newt Gingrich was in town Wednesday and I asked what it would take for the GOP to regain its popularity. The former House speaker, who led the Republican resurgence of the mid-1990s, responded that Barack Obama is this generation's Jimmy Carter, and predicted the current administration will saddle the country with debt, inflation and weak foreign policy.
"I think (the GOP) is going to regain popularity pretty quickly," he said.
These days, Gingrich is building an organization called, "American Solutions," which is developing a blueprint to overhaul the country's economic, education, energy and science policies. But he seems to share Tea Party demonstrators' schadenfreude that Democrats will crumble and make Republicans stand – or at least appear – taller.
Meanwhile, the Public Policy Institute of California's poll shows Obama holding steady with a 70-percent approval rating among the state's adults, same as two months ago.

The difference between Obama and Carter is that the latter was able to prove that he was a natural born US citizen and did not mind doing so.
If you dig deep, you might find Carter actually admires certain things about the old USA. Obama does not. He is a fraud, a marxist, and a lying sack of poop.
I know some will find this hard to believe, but Newt is being far too kind to B.O.
