I remember reading a story where a corpse was chopped up, stuffed into a suitcase and thrown into a lake.

The police said, "We are investigating this as a possible homicide."

I remember a story where three people were found shot in the back of the head, hands tied behind their backs and thrown into a swimming pool and “police suspected foul play”, oh and two cars were on fire blocking the driveway.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but it’s entirely possible that it wasn’t a homicide.

The person who did the chopping and stuffing could have come across a corpse that died of natural causes.
