Likely Opponent In Primary Looks to Tap Anger on Right.
BY PERRY BACON JR.
PHILADELPHIA, April 13 -- Sen. Arlen Specter's support for President Obama's stimulus package has recharged a political rivalry, setting up what could be a divisive rematch between one of the GOP's leading moderates and a powerful conservative activist.
Pat Toomey, head of the anti-tax Club for Growth, stepped down from the post Monday, the first move in what his aides say is an almost-certain run against Specter in next year's Republican Senate primary. In the 2004 primary, Specter defeated Toomey by 17,000 votes out of more than 1 million cast.
Even though the race is a year away, Specter has taken the rare step of running attack ads against Toomey, attempting to link his work as a trader on Wall Street in the 1980s and 1990s with the current economic crisis.
. . . . .
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, has written a letter to fellow Republicans asking them to support Specter.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar!
TO ALL NUMB-NUTS: If Cornyn doesn’t play this game Specter would have no reason to vote with Republicans on ANYTHING. Besides, based on the last few elections, when has the backing of the NRSC made any difference.
I realized you are right after I read that Coryn is trying to make Snarlin Arlen do the right thing on Card Check. Spanking taken!
Oh yes, by all means! Let’s just hide in a corner and hope that Specter graces us with a few crumbs from time to time!
That’s why we are in the majority today and won in the last two election cycles.....uh, wait.......

Let me guess CHECKERS is your game and not CHESS.
From Eisenhower to the younger Bush, the Republican Party has been ineffectual in reversing the growth of governmental power. If it is to be anything more than "Team B" of the Big Government party, it will have to reinvent itself. Both the outright RINOs and the compromisers will have to go. If not, even if Obama stumbles and he is succeeded by someone like Mitt Romney or Sarah Palin and a Republican Congress in 2012, his legacy and that of the Pelosi/Reid Congress will not be repealed. Then the next cycle that brings in the Democrats will continue the leftward push.
This dialectic has been going on since 1933. It must be broken. It will not be as long as liberals like Specter and compromisers like Cornyn are in charge of the alleged opposition party.
My email to Cornyn - other Texans, please consider sending “in kind”
Senator Cornyn,
Bluntly, if you support the re-election of the likes of Arlen Specter, then you are part of the problem.
The public has demonstrated in the TEA Parties that they know that the republicans are complicit in this mess. Many have stated that they wish to be rid of the ‘professional politician’ and return to real representative democracy more like that established originally in the Constitution, but with TERM LIMITS.
We also recognize that our professional politicians have allowed the usurpation of our country by leftists. We see indoctrination and historical revision in ALL our schools, we see propaganda machines (the mainstream media) promoting and supporting leftist ideologues and ‘one world’ government, we see judge after judge ignore the oath he or she has taken and make up laws out of thin air; and now we have a student of leftist radicalism as president, with everyone in a position of responsibility failing their own oath to defend the Constitution “against all enemies, foreign and domestic” by not ensuring its requirements are met in regards to Constitutional presidential qualifications.
Your conservative political positions are the republican equivalent to clinton’s triangulation; we see that your interests are not with the needs of Texas or America. As an elected representative from Texas, you should be standing against the fiscal irresponsibility that promotes unfairness and raises the tax burden on all citizens. Supporting Specter is being part of the “republican team” and representing the interest of neither Americans nor the Texans who elected you.
This year may be the last gasp of United States exceptionalism. I will support NO ONE who has in any way contributed to its downturn. I see your support of Specter as such a contribution.
(BTW, My wife and I were members of the Oak Hills Church of Christ BEFORE we built Crown Ridge and remember your using the Church directory for political purposes, another indicator of your lack of discernment and integrity.)
one of your current constituents,
