Several other children living in the Hadid home were removed by the Department of Children and Family Services, Lawler said.
Hadid's husband, Allaeddin, said outside the courtroom that his wife is innocent of the charges. Prosecutors said Hadid was a flight risk, and Kunkle ordered her to turn over her passport.
At a news conference on the case today, Orland Park Police Chief Timothy J. McCarthy said paramedics were called to the house after a call was made that the 2-year-old had fallen down the stairs. As paramedics tried to revive the child, they noticed she had severe bruising all over her body, McCarthy said.
On the same day, children were removed from the Hadid family home and examined, McCarthy said. No signs of abuse were found. On Sunday evening, those children were taken into protective custody by the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services and placed in a relative's care, McCarthy said.
Detectives interviewed Hadid and obtained a taped confession where "she outlined in detail how the child was abused," McCarthy said.
Bhia Hadid was placed in Nour Hadid's care by her parents, McCarthy said.
McCarthy confirmed that two of Hadid's stepchildren were injured in a fire in 2003. In that incident, the children's biological mother was trying to light a fireplace and caught on fire, McCarthy said. Two children were injured in the incident, which was ruled an accident. McCarthy said the incidents are unrelated.
"We are asking the state's attorney's office for due diligence for this little child," Rouhy Shalabi, an Evergreen Park attorney and a friend of the victim's family, said after the hearing.
"The victim's mother is in shock. She can't accept that this child, who was an angel, was taken under such senseless, tragic circumstances."

But Alaeddin Hadid - who insists his wife is innocent - said Orland Park police are "really going to be in big trouble" for releasing the woman's booking photo to the news media after she was charged with first-degree murder.
The Hadids are Muslims and Nour "never leaves the home without covering up," said Alaeddin, who's vowed to sue.
By custom, some practicing Muslim women wear the hijab, or headscarf, and cover their arms and legs when in public.
In the mug shot, a bare-headed and obviously emotional Nour appears to be protecting her modesty with her hands.
"It is against our religion; we do not do this in our culture," Alaeddin said.
"People have been calling me about this all day."

The police booking photo of alleged child killer Nour Hadid released Tuesday is an "insult against our religion," says Hadid's husband, Alaeddin.
Orland Park police detectives say the 26-year-old Muslim woman was treated as any other suspect in a murder probe would be, and they did not intend to humiliate her when they photographed her Sunday without her headscarf and wearing only a skimpy top.
