There are a lot of reasons corporations lay folks off, ROF (reduction of force), theft, gross negligence, and incompetence are but a few.

If this man was indeed laid off 4 months before pension, he could go to court for redress and probably win.

oh, and 20 years is not a lifetime - I’ve been working 35 years and still have 10 good years left.
