Mena, Arkansas Hit By Tornado

FOX16 is getting reports that a tornado has hit downtown Mena. There are reports that the courthouse took a direct hit and the downtown area has major damage.
We do not yet know about injuries in this area.
FOX16 is working on getting more information and will bring it to you here and on FOX16 News.

I was on a backpacking trip in the Ozarks several years ago and at one point we were about 25 miles from Mena. I remember hearing airplanes all night long.

The tornado sirens are blasting away here in East Texas (Longview). One was sighted north of here so this is a pretty bad storm.

Fortunately, for the Minerals in SW AR the clouds have split to our north and south leaving us with much ado about very little. I am a storm rider, but no fan of tornadoes, but the elder Mrs. Mineral is very much a hide in the closet type.

5 to 6 people trapped Masonic Lodge in Mena. Extensive damage to the Court house.
DeQueen Arkansas took a hit as well.
Storms still firing up.
